Cette adaptation cinématographique de la franchise vidéoludique culte Silent Hill, que l’on doit à notre frenchie Christophe Gans, est un film d’horreur oppressant et mystérieux qui dépeint une ville abandonnée surréaliste peuplée de créatures horribles et d’humains fanatiques. La mise en scène est très esthétique, les interprètes sont convaincants (une mention spéciale à la jeune Jodelle Ferland), le scénario à la fois étrange et intriguant est prenant, l’ambiance (visuelle et auditive) surnaturelle, malsaine et glauque des jeux est retranscrite avec minutie, les décors qui coexistent dans plusieurs niveaux de réalité sont saisissants de réalisme, l’abominable bestiaire est toujours une réussite (les enfants qui se consument, les infirmières déformées, la tête de pyramide, etc.) malgré des SFX aujourd’hui un peu voyants et la partition de Akira Yamaoka (le compositeur attitré des jeux) donne des sueurs froides. Une incontestable réussite scénaristique, visuelle et sonore qui comblera les fans des jeux mais aussi les cinéphiles curieux.

À la façon de l’excellent Cloverfield, cette bombe de terreur hyper-réaliste est captée en « live » tel un reportage. Et malgré un scénario linéaire et un début long à se mettre en place, cette plongée viscérale dans un huis clos terrifiant fait vraiment froid dans le dos.

Between Poltergeist and Amityville, Insidious est un film vraiment terrifiant (cf. les fugitives visions cauchemardesques) et angoissant, soutenu par un scénario malin comme le diable et porté par une mise en scène sobre et virtuose qui distille parfaitement ses effets et instaure une atmosphère tendue d’une redoutable efficacité.

Après la mort soudaine de Sparky, son chien adoré, le jeune Victor fait appel au pouvoir de la science afin de ramener à la vie celui qui était aussi son meilleur ami. Victor va tenter de cacher la créature qu’il a fabriquée mais lorsque Sparky s’échappe, ses copains de classe, ses professeurs et la ville tout entière vont apprendre que vouloir mettre la vie en laisse peut avoir quelques monstrueuses conséquences…
Cette relecture toute personnelle du mythe de la créature de Frankenstein, est une fable gothico-macabre infiniment poétique et mélancolique peuplée de personnages réjouissants et de références aux classiques du cinéma d’horreur, dont l’animation en stop motion (la technologie n’a jamais été aussi bien utilisée) et l’utilisation d’un noir et blanc spectral sont justes merveilleuses. Grâce à ce bijou de l’animation, Tim Burton retrouve son génie créatif et ressuscite comme Sparky. Une pépite cinématographique !

Cherchant à renouer avec le succès, Ellison, auteur de livres policiers inspirés de faits réels, emménage avec sa famille dans une maison dont les anciens occupants ont été retrouvés pendus. La découverte de vieilles bobines 8 mm le met sur la piste d’un mystère surnaturel. Pendant ce temps, tous les soirs à la nuit tombée, des bruits étranges se font entendre dans la maison…
Ce film d’horreur angoissant à l’atmosphère inquiétante, à la tension horrifique permanente, aux nombreuses scènes éprouvantes pour les nerfs, à la distribution convaincante (Ethan Hawke en tête), au boogeyman terrifiant et au scénario bien plus recherché qu’à l’accoutumé, détourne les codes du found-footage avec intelligence pour proposer une mise en abyme habile (le personnage principal regarde des vidéos amateurs perturbantes que nous visionnons par la même occasion) et une réflexion sur le pouvoir de l’image ambitieuse. Une expérience cinématographique extrêmement flippante et malaisante.

Cette adaptation fidèle à l’une des œuvres-phares de Stephen King, est un récit d’apprentissage sur la perte de l’innocence enfantine et le passage à l’adolescence où le Club des Ratés, les Goonies d’aujourd’hui interprétés par des gamins au top, nous embarque dans un cirque de cauchemars à l’ambiance malsaine et aux visions d’horreur mémorables. Le suspense est solide, la direction artistique très soignée, le personnage terrifiant du Clown Grippe-Sou particulièrement bien iconisé, et il n’est pas rare de passer du rire à l’effroi. Une réussite majeure !

Couple mixte, Chris et sa petite amie Rose filent le parfait amour. Le moment est donc venu de rencontrer la belle famille, Missy et Dean lors d’un week-end sur leur domaine dans le nord de l’État. Chris commence par penser que l’atmosphère tendue est liée à leur différence de couleur de peau, mais très vite une série d’incidents de plus en plus inquiétants lui permet de découvrir l’inimaginable…
Cette rencontre inquiétante et pleine de faux semblants entre deux catégories sociales, est un thriller psychologique cauchemardesque sur fond de question raciale qui renoue avec les films d’horreur des 70’s. Très doué dans la précision de l’écriture, les changements de tons (l’ironie, le second degré, l’inquiétude, l’effroi, la violence), la gestion du rythme, l’installation d’une atmosphère anxiogène, la direction d’acteurs et l’exécution de sa mise en scène, Jordan Peele se joue des clichés du genre jusqu’à l’inattendu dénouement final. Hantée par les angoisses de tout un peuple, Get Out est une vraie perle noire qu’il faut absolument voir !

Fort d’un postulat original, No noise est un exercice de style sensoriel profondément suffocant. Tout autant série B horrifique d’une efficacité redoutable (toutes les attaques sont mémorables) que chronique familiale émouvante, ce survival intime à la maîtrise technique impressionnante et au casting remarquable vaut la peine d’être « vécu ».

Vingt-sept ans après les événements de la première attaque, le clown diabolique Pennywise revient hanter les rues de Derry, une ville paisible dans le Maine. Les membres du Club des Ratés, désormais adultes, se retrouvent alors après avoir été séparés les uns des autres depuis longtemps.
Un peu moins réussie par excès de longueur (d’inévitables petites baisses de rythme) et de numérique, cette suite toujours adaptée du roman de Stephen King ne manque pas d’efficacité. Mêlant adroitement drame, humour et horreur, ce film fantastique au casting 5 étoiles est visuellement léché et met en scène des « ratés » (devenus adultes) touchants, dont les rencontres avec le terrifiant clown Pennywise vont donner lieu à plusieurs moments marquants.
