WORK – Surprise monster!
New York. About 40 of his friends and relations organized a party at Rob's home in honour of his departure for Japan. Among them, Hub, video maker of one evening, charged with immortalizing the event. The « party » beats when a violent shaking suddenly shakes the building. The guests rush into the street where a worried crowd gathered in a few moments. An immense shadow is looming in the sky, a deaf roar is heard... and the head of the Statue of Liberty suddenly collapses on the pavement. The attack of the century has just begun. In the early morning, Manhattan will only be a field of ruins...
With a striking realism with its panic movements, extreme violence and horrific visions at the height of men, this fantastic film plunges us into the meandering of an alarming catastrophe (the trauma experienced by the victims evokes the tragedy of September 11th) and makes the monster movie revitalise with brilliance. Definitely captivating and leaving no minute of respite to the spectators (cardiacs, abstain!), Cloverfield is the definitive work of the genus found footage.
IMAGE – Camera on fist
Captured in DV 1080p camera and subjective vision, the images of this UHD Dolby Vision transfer go (surprisingly) much further than those of its HD counterpart.
Despite the deliberate degradation due to the desired amateur style (instability of the frame, uncertain development, variable grain, etc.), the stronger compression (the tinglings have disappeared), the more chiseled piqué (cf. the innumerable debris) and the brighter colours (it is notable on the side of the reds) give a new material to the frame.
Taking off which is almost completely at night, the film finds with HDR technology a weight ally. In fact, the significantly improved contrast management (the metro tunnels are more legible) and the boost to light sources (urban lighting, explosions) do wonders.
SOUND – Dive into chaos
Space effects with rabies, cataclysmic basses and monstrous dynamism for maximum enveloping sound release. Despite the unfortunate absence of an Atmos mix, we would believe it!
Less powerful and expanded, the VF is still exhausting (in the right direction).
CONCLUSION – Keep a secret
Making much more damage in 4K Ultra HD, the creature will sow incredible chaos in your room or room HC!
Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia

I loved Cloverfield at the time at the cinema even though I think he would have been even more powerful if he hadn't seen the whole creature. The first three quarters are a treat with suggestive plans at the crossroads of horror and godzilla, of which we can see only ribs despite its immensity. The end was more agreed. Come on, I'll get it back on my 4K projector.
Good decision.
I was caught a lot of slamming at the time at the movies: 2008 is up!
