The all-powerful Kong and the dreadful Godzilla unite their forces against a terrible yet secret threat that threatens to destroy them and endangers the very survival of the human species.
Not much to put under the tooth in this fifth film of the MonsterVerse if this is a multicolored, all-vapile CGI action, where humans are just paws (Dan Stevens in Ace Ventura 2.0) and where the big bebeasts just think to fuck on their face in front of a camera Adam Wingard (The Guest, Godzilla vs Kong) which forgets any scale ratio. But as kaijū eiga Childish bottled at Showa, this titanesque blockbuster (which the kon(g)nerie does not scare) breaks the house.

IMAGE - The bowels of the Earth
Faithful to the stylistic intentions of the Chief Operator Ben Seresin (World War Z, Chaos Walking), i.e. a digital capture with visceral rendering (of granularity, elliptical blur, sweetness and chromatic aberrations) and non-clinical obtained by the use of a range of personalized lenses and advanced optics, this UHD Dolby Vision transfer with constantly high binary flow (beyond 70 Mb/s) puts a very solid Blu-ray potato.
The amount of definition is really significant in the (many) broad planes, the details gain in refinement (hairs, sweat drops, scales, scars, clothes), the intensely animated colorimetric palette displays even more sumptuous shades since enriched (cf. the increased vivacity of the primary and the additional depth of the other tones) and contrasts, seriously enlarged, accentuate the legibility of the dark (by better graduated velvety blacks) and the brightness of the light sources (the atomic breath of Godzilla, the crystals of the hollow Earth, the awakening of Mothra) with a MaxCLL of 968 nits and a MaxFALL of 457 cd/m2.
SON - N.O.S. of a Simian in distress
Extremely aggressive with its wide dynamic range and thundering bass, this Dolby Atmos soundtrack (VO and VF on an equal footing) with maximum envelope pushes the potashes to the detriment of the aigües, curiously stifled on certain effects (such as the broken ice in the last act) and during the diffusion of the partially electro scoredAntonio Di Iorio and Tom Holkenborg (Zack Snyder, Mad Max: Fury Road). In fact, the one-way match had a completely different clarity even if the channel separation remains of first order here too.
The spatialisation which is totally spectacular and in total osmosis with the images is wildly immersive, the aerial channels give to heart joy as soon as a bug (not necessarily winged) and/or aircraft come into play, and the dialogues are perfectly reproduced. So yes, the sound gymkhana is there despite high frequencies on the hold.
CONCLUSION - Best Friend for Life?
Regressive from end to end and messy bourrine, the monstrously deprecated Kong and Godzilla alliance imposes as a pure entertainment to the generosity (too) overflowing that the present 4K Ultra HD (from A/V performances to the height of both colossus) makes more fast and furious... And if the indigestion is in check, a cure of Godzilla Minus One Will do you the greatest good!
