WORK - Zombiesque Pandemia

On a day like the others, Gerry Lane and his family find themselves stuck in a monster traffic jam on their daily journey. Former United Nations investigator, Lane immediately understands that the situation is unusual. As the police helicopters crisscross the sky and the bikers crisscross the streets, the city turns into chaos...

Even though mainstream and de facto sweetened (blood and political metaphor have been eaten), this blockbuster catastrophe (with zombies) where the horror arises safely keeps in constant breath by its fierce staging, its frenetic rhythm (animated by the energy of despair), its spectacular pieces of bravery (supported by impressive CGIs) and its Brad Pitt as concerned as well as hairy. Failing to revolutionize the genre, the great show is here!

IMAGE - Have a Pepsi Day

This UHD Dolby Vision transfer, which comes from a digital capture in the Super 35 format finalized in 2K, is reserved for the Theatrical Cut slightly unsaturated aesthetic affine of photography (signed Ben Seresin) despite the tenuous differences vis-à-vis its HD counterpart.

Compression does not suffer from any weakness despite ambient agitation (an average flow of 85 Mb/s), the level of detail shows a more chiseled strand (face hair, background decorations) without betraying the softness inherent in the source, the colorimetric palette with malady hues (orange/sarcelles) shows a discreetly increased tone (primary, carnation), the shade zones are somewhat better defined thanks to richer blacks and the whites, clearly enhanced (an average brightness of 315 cd/m2 with peaks exceeding 1000 nit), grant intensity to the various light sources (disaster rockets, video monitors, Welsh laboratory ceiling caps).

World War Z

SON - Silence your cell phone

Noury of impetuous effects (ambient chaos, the rales of zombies), the spectacular proposal DTS-HD MA 7.1 of the previous Blu-ray was not afraid to go there with its precise spatialization (the crowded streets, the rain, the helicopters), its biting surround channels, its dynamics under adrenaline, its thundering basses (fires, reactors and explosions did not lack strength), its very wide score (composed by Marco Beltrami) and its clarity at all times (dialogues).

Less totally immersive since losing two speakers in the operation, the DTS-HD MA 5.1 soundtrack here (only multichannel track provided by Paramount) is identical to listening except for this localized loss at the back. The strong sensations therefore persist and the soundscape remains naturally enveloping.

CONCLUSION - The day after

While it has revitalized the zombie culture with the (very) general public by focusing on the globalised health crisis (in the move of Contagion), this haletante race against the clock finds its cure in a 4K Ultra HD certainly diminished (audio downgrade) but no less full of antibodies (video upgrade). The brains are nickel! The rotulas are not bad!

Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
