A soldier who invests with the family of a former fallen comrade will gradually become a danger when the dangerous secrets of his past suddenly resurface...
Playful from end to end, The Guest is a psychological thriller with 80s sauce that, by evolving off the beaten track, reinvents the genre to better take the spectators off. And if you add to that a real sense of staging, an unforgettable actor performance (the machiavelic and rather cool Dan Stevens), a story that raises the pressure with brilliance, memorable scenes (the final completely barred) and a disturbing electro music to the Carpenter, you get a diabolical work of the most catchy that succeeds without difficulty to install a climate of permanent tension around the particularly complex personality of its central character, as charming as it is tactful.
Covered by a highly chiaded photograph, these images with a sharp film texture (a beautiful layer of grain) benefit from a UHD Dolby Vision transfer of killer.
Despite a limited budget (the film cost only $5 million), the definition is still appropriate and the details most often demanding. More refined than on the Blu-ray, they finer restore the textures of the decorations and the irregularities of the faces.
Retro volunteers in its look, the colorimetric palette (supervised for the occasion by Adam Wingard in person), warmly saturated, perfects thanks to the WCG the vibrance of its primary (starting with the reds)... Supported it is true by more athletic contrasts (threat blacks) and light sources that are more striking than in CSD (such as neons and projectors in the hall to host Halloween ball).
Immersive, captivating and electrified by an original soundtrack (broadcast with a great deal of presence) with interesting new wave titles, this soundtrack as cunning and effective as the guest of the film delivers intelligible dialogues, effects (especially ballistics) and/or sharp atmospheres both at the front and back and powerful basses from the second half.
Unarming, this independent B series that delights from the atmosphere of the 1980s was particularly spoiled by the British publisher Second Sight which, having not suffocated on the means, offers us a sumptuous 4K Ultra HD box in limited edition. Stuffed with new bonuses (including the huge BO CD) and technically completed, this fine object must be invited to your home!
Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
