WORK - The super vampire of the SSU
Severely affected by a rare blood disease, and determined to save all the victims of this pathology, Dr. Morbius tries a desperate bet. But what seems at first sight to be a success quickly turns out to be a potentially more serious remedy than the disease...
Neither good nor bad, this leukemic adaptation (everything is smoother and more predictable) which is 20 years late just has no identity. And while the story is broken down (between poorly constructed stakes, sacrificed characterization and useless cops), the aseptic violence and the action in lack of vital energy, it still lets itself be followed without displeasure by its array of SFX (whose effects of dematerialization evoke those of Diablo in X-Men 2) and slaughter of Jared Leto (House of Gucci, A Case of Details, Zack Snyder). Anecdotal, this B series (in turn) plunges the nail into the coffin of Comic Book Movie.
IMAGE - It's Morbin' Time!
This UHD Dolby Vision transfer, which comes from a digital capture and a 4K DI, is very securely encoded and benefits the twilight photography of the deceased. Oliver Wood.
Somewhat dark in view of his subject, the image devoid of grain and/or noise exposes a definition that hardly weakens, details to the increased clarity (the decorations, the beard of Dr Morbius, the vampiric features during the transformations), a colorimetric palette to the exemplary saturation dominated by a deeper steel blue stained with brighter colours (oranges and reds) punchy, firmer contrasts ensuring to the blacks (the corridors of the lab immersed in darkness) and whites (the white shirt when the Nobel Prize was awarded) a better legibility, and light sources more intense than those of his counterpart SDR (cf. lighting of the metro).
SON - Bats in shelters
Showing clarity and a wrap of every moment (especially during the echolocations), the VO Dolby Atmos is a wonderful soundtrack that bites blood and leaves nothing. A constancy at Sony!
The effects such as atmospheres are as well defined (the Costa Rican nature, the urban life) as they go generously through all the channels (of height included with a helicopter, a swarm of bats and j-en pass to leave you the surprise), the dynamics that control its aggressiveness is striking what is needed (fire shots), the dialogues are clear and remain well centered, the music of Brian Tyler (strongly influenced by Batman Begins) is fluid and perfectly ventilated, and bass engage with a certain depth.
Even if it loses the verticality of its 3D consœur (recoverable in part by activating a virtual DSP), the VF encoded in DTS-HD MA 5.1 is a balanced soundtrack with great power, ultra-immersive spatialization and dubbing that integrates well into environments.
CONCLUSION - New blood?
If Sonys Spider-Man Universe (the SSU) still seems to be disembarking from a later era (cou Venom: Let There Be Carnage), the anti-hero Morbius shows better the hooks on 4K Ultra HD support!
Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
