WORK – When the symbiote sees red
About a year after facing Riot, Eddie Brock « cohabitation » Always with the Venom symbiote. As he tries to revive his career as an investigative journalist, Eddie goes to prison to interview serial killer Cletus Kasady. He does not know that the latter is also host to a symbiote, Carnage.
Disembarking from a past era (the 1990s), this blockbuster that delights in its bullshit is a brazen bromance of the brain straight out of a cocaine trip. Refusing to be taken seriously and deeply regressive, this entertainment that « He beats his balls » of everything is an aberration in the cinematic landscape of superheroes ... Like Batman and Robin A few years ago! It's fun and a rare nonsense if it doesn't be a good adaptation of the antihero Venom.
IMAGE – A lucky face?
With cleanliness and stability, this life-filled image is wonderfully restored by this UHD Dolby Vision transfer.
The definition is really solid with the exception of some fluctuations due to the intensive use of CGI, the details are finer than in HD despite the 2K nature of the DI (the muscular structure of the symbiotes, the alleys in the background), the colorimetric palette (an explosion of colors) acquires an additional richness (the blue sign adjacent to Brock's apartment, the flames that consume St. Estes), the contrasts have been perfected (the raised blacks of the Blu-ray are here deeper and the purity of the whites has been seen reinforced) and the light sources, regularly intense (public lighting), reach a radiance (the stop lights of the motorcycle of Eddie, the moon illuminating a street, the reflections on the bodywork, the luminous sticks carried by Venom to the club) that the SDR encoding is only touching.
SOUND – Sound waves
Bruyante and superactive, this soundtrack Dolby Atmos which takes full part in its dynamic (monstrous) and its front (fuzzy) face yet only partially from the rear scene (all the same well present, see the displacement of the arms of Venom) !
Almost perfect if not in use « moderate » surrounds (quietly discrete at times), it is illustrated by a power dropped without restraint that is expressed fully during the action scenes (especially in the cathedral). Also deep (Venom's guttural voice allows the subwoofer to never get bored) and allowing itself to engulf the audience on many occasions (the rain, the roaring of Carnage, the screams of Shriek, the resounding of the bells, etc.), it lacks neither strength nor precision.
A little less striking when she cannot « enlighten » elements « fallen from the sky », lack of verticality of the sound obliges, the VF encoded in DTS-HD MA 5.1 still remains very spectacular.
CONCLUSION – A real carnage?
If you want a schizophrenic friendship with cow love, the present 4K Ultra HD will allow you to seal this union counter-nature!
