It is brought to the attention of our dear readers as well as the viewing equipment specified and used by each tester of the MaG team, the rendering may differ from one installation to another, whether or not it is calibrated, as well as personal preferences and expectations may influence the rating.
WORK – No, but say, is it good or not?
The young Hobbit Frodo Saquet inherits a ring. It is the Unique Ring, an instrument of absolute power that would allow Sauron, Lord of Darkness, to rule the Middle Earth and to enslave its peoples...
Adaptation very respectful of the immense universe imagined by Tolkien, Lord of the Rings is an enchanting and highly spectacular trilogy of the heroic fantasy that has forever marked the history of cinema.
IMAGE – Everyone's beautiful, are you sure?
Aspired to harmonize its saga of « Middleland », Peter Jackson has modernized the photograph of his (head of) work.
Clearly more realistic (vaporous filters are no longer travel), the new color calibration is wonderful... As is the case with the rebalancing of contrasts, now more supported, which allows night scenes to gain readability and the CGIs to appear better integrated. As for lighting, the slightest glare of light shines with a magnificent vibrance.
This visual fairy is however diminished by the use, discreet but real, of DNR... but not only. Because 35 mm capture forces, the silver grain is much shyer than it should. As a result, not as detailed as expected (but always a hair more than in HD), the image uses here enhanced edge.
SON – He who has ears to hear, hear!
On the soundtrack, the Dolby Atmos mixing is enveloping (a real sound bubble), flawless accuracy (effects and/or atmospheres everywhere), dynamic and massive (see bass). In short, the result is overwhelming... Especially as the titaniumsque partition of Howard Shore fits perfectly with the ensemble.
To a lesser extent, DTS-HD MA (5.1 and 6.1) VFs remain highly effective.
CONCLUSION – Every good thing has an end...
What better than 4K Ultra HD support for such a monumental fresco? For now, nothing!
Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
