WORK - The mother of all abuse

While Beth hasn't seen her big sister Ellie in a long time, she comes to visit her in Los Angeles where she raises her three children alone. But their reunion turns into a nightmare when they discover a mysterious book in the basement of the building, whose reading frees demons who take possession of the living...

Evil never dies... as inaccessible saga Evil Dead who, 40 years old, is already convening his fifth film section. Looking more at the side of the reboot of Álvarez that of the splapstick having made the legend ofEvil Dead 2 and its sequel, this demonic ride where horror goes crescendo leaves the woods for a closed city owned by the unbridled gore.

Admittedly agreed in his writing (the shotguns of Chekhov are expected and the shots seen many times in the genre) but really generous in his massacre (which covers the walls of hemoglobin), this series B to the ingenious staging (the fisheye plans by the judas) and to notable performances (Alyssa Sutherland, Lily Sullivan) stains the screen of a scarlet red frankly cheerful. Always groovy!

IMAGE - The Tower of Terror

Developing in the darkness, peaty photography and « months » of the Dave Garbett fully flourished with this neat UHD HDR10 transfer that comes to exorcise the limitations of a Blu-ray yet worthy of esteem.

The definition never distracts the eye, the details become sharper (the damaged flesh, the sweat on the faces, the bloody veins, the texture of the decorations), the colorimetric palette brings out the blue-green shades and the ardent oranges that haunt it (including the splash of blood), the contrast rate that is otherwise wider leaves black ink and whites. « dilapidated » for an even richer darkness (no sign of crushing), and light sources with a delicately amber glow retain their morosity while enjoying additional intensity (see reflections on the surface of the water and lighting of the elevator).

Evil Dead Rise

SOUND - Goodnight Mommy.

Ludic and strongly animated (threat comes from all channels), the Dolby Atmos soundtrack reserved for the VO sets as a reference in the field. It strikes strongly from the beginning (the appearance of the title) to the end (the confrontation with the « boss »), created terror from its effects alone and maintains a constant oppressive atmosphere.

The dynamic that is ruthless maximizes the teasing scares jumps and the appearance of evil spirits, the dialogues are always clear, the spatialization abounds with information in the surrounds (between supernatural elements and external atmospheres) and the heights (forest fauna and flora, a drone, debris falls, the voices of the otter falls, the reverberation in the garage), the fearful score signed Stephen McKeon walk through the listening room not without scale and the bass are extremely robust (the earthquake, the impact of the shotgun, the buzzing of the chainsaw, etc.).

Under the empire of fear, the VFI has a hard time letting go in comparison. The envelope is clearly lower (lost and more measured rear verticality), attenuated power and less natural dubbing.

CONCLUSION - House of the Deadites

Even though the bonus features remained in Hell, this 4K Ultra HD edition with divine A/V features exposes the Necronomicon of Lee Cronin in all his malfeasance!

Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
