With the recent release ofEvil Dead Rise comes the necessary question: what remains of the franchise Evil Dead After Sam Raimi's founding trilogy? In addition to the obvious pop-cultural swarming, there was the foundation of a franchise (and when there is a franchise, we often deal with foundations!). But in the case ofEvil Dead, things could be a little more interesting than you might think... A tour in the form of a triple program.
Ash vs. Evil Dead
Degenerate series completely bobbing in its second season, Ash vs. Evil Dead staged Ash (Bruce Campbell) which unfortunately reads the Necronomicon after an umpteenth overwatered evening. Delirium gore clearly betting more on the excessive comic than on the frown, the series is summed up in a real Bruce-Campbell-porn, an astronomical amount of 2-stroke mixture to turn all its chainsaws and inevitably a lot, a lot of latex and fake blood.
In too full a constant, Ash vs. Evil Dead Sooner or later, he will turn round, but not without having delivered his good dose of bleeding madness. And just for that, she's worth a look!
Evil Dead (2013)
The Evid Dead version Fede Alvarez, realized shortly before its The House of Darkness (2016), is a pure rereading of the basic work. One soft reboot, to use French terminology. Indeed, if he takes over the tropes of Raimi's first two films, he puts it in a current context where the protagonists land in a forest hut to help a friend detoxify herself. If the exploitation of hallucinations related to weaning could have been interesting, Alvarez makes almost nothing of this aspect of the scenario. No more than he will be able to direct his skewer of archetypal actors, ill-incarnate and offering us a dose of charisma close to absolute zero.
However, despite these grievances, it is impossible not to spend at least a reasonable time before Evil Dead 2013 sauce! Indeed, the cold first degree of this rereading and its projections of hallucinating violence give it a real strength. Gore that stains well properly, deprecated certainly, but highly derogatory.
To read, the technical test Evil Dead (2013), demons and a lot of blood by the celest wolf.
Evil Dead Rise (2023)
Well... warm the franchise ten years after the last film, it smelled like a dead rat a few miles away. Yet, to lock in the last almost empty room of a neighborhood cinema to watch this Evil Dead Rise of the Lee Cronin turned out to be a very good choice! So as for the Evil Dead 2013 (excluding post-generic cameo), exit Ash. We're going to refocus on a new galaxy of characters and this time on a new environment. Farewell the cabin in the woods, here we are in a small apartment in Los Angeles, in the legs of a single parent family led by Ellie (Alyssa Sutherland), soon joined by his sister Beth (Lily Sullivan).
If complaints (absurd) about a pseudo-anti-abortion speech in the film circulated, it is rather to the little flesh that he gives to his characters that should have been criticized. Yet, when the massacre game begins, it is impossible not to give in to the film taking us in its roller coasters of gore until the end implacable. Put away your cheese graters, hide your knives and above all, don't listen to dusty old vinyls... They may well lead the deadis To your house!
Is this the Evil Dead trilogy after all?
So of course, given the legacy that they collude (especially the obvious and brilliant) Evil Dead 2), the three works that we come to evoke remain rather minor creations. But each in their own way, they will be able to dig their furrow in the middle of the gore to chop their spectators into a delirium often rich in guts. And since it comes out on a big screen, why don't you take it? Groovy!
« I will swallow your soul, I will swallow your soul, I will swallow your soul! » « Take it! »
The demon and Ash Williams in « Evil Dead 2 »
Drinking the Stephen Kings as the apricot syrup of my native country, I first discovered cinema through its (often bad) adaptations. I'm married to Mrs. Wilkes as much as a persistent Stockholm syndrome, I am gradually opening up to videoclub films and B-series peasers.Today, I wander between my favorite cinemas, film festivals and the edges of Helvetic lakes much less calm than they look.

It's crazy as Evil Dead (2013) left an imperishable memory. Having made special effects without digital fireworks gives a striking result. The organic side jumps to our face and we fall into a crazy overbidding during the final blood rain. It's certainly a game set of erased actors but nothing that Mia is fucking creepy. Damn it, it's done right! ^^^
I didn't manage to find the same sensations with the last one who misses his eight-clos the fault to characters (even more) stupid like brooms and reactions completely filled. I found it less inspired in these killings with a very slow rhythm while in the 2013 version it accelerates in a fraction of seconds and you feel the d-adrenaline rise of the characters pushed to block.
In contrast, the final sympathies are less than in 2013 in my opinion.
