WORK - Our imaginary friends
Bea, a 12-year-old girl, discovers one day that she can see the imaginary friends of everyone. Then begins a magical adventure to reconnect each child to his or her forgotten imaginary friend.
Ode to childhood, this initiatory story, full of tenderness and emotions, successfully mixes actors and 3D characters (a coherent exploitation of special effects where the real side of the imagination) to evoke grief and fears. But so endowed with such a big heart, this family adventure that remembers that it is never too late to believe in it tends to be distracted by too much influence. After the wicked unfriendly monsters (No noise), thank you for welcoming the kind, caring monsters of John Krasinski.
« I'm an I.A. You understand? Imaginary friend. »
IMAGE - The world of the invisible
This UHD Dolby Vision transfer to the average bitrate of 54.4 Mbit/s (a low figure that does not appear on the screen) accentuates the qualities of the splendid photography of the photo. Janusz Kaminski (the West Side Story of 2021, The Fabelmans).
The increased resolution (the sharpness of the background) coupled with the very other fineness of the details (furs) increase the perception of depth, the already vibrant colors of the Blu-ray explode more frankly on Coney Island with richer made primaries and the management of contrasts, which is reinforced, benefits the levels of black (more dense) and the perceptible luminous intensity (striking during the re-imagination of the sanctuary or on stage with « Tina Turner »). MaxFALL was measured at 178 cd/m2 and MaxCLL at 3421 nits.
It's Alive!
If you do not expect a deluge of effects, the VO Dolby Atmos (24-bit, 3746 kbps) at the occasional verticality (especially when Blossom flees Bea to join the upstairs apartment) is ideally tuned to the source that it sounds.
The dynamic range is suitable, the distribution well balanced and some playful sounds even take advantage of the out-of-field. There are several official envelopes (the New York City ambiances, visits to the hospital, agitation in the retirement residence), the sensitive score of Michael Giacchino is delicately shared, the reproduction of dialogues (for humans like imaginary friends) is crystal clear and the LFE channel, without being very physical, is fairly well exploited (the Blue Falls).
Deprived of an HD track, the VF Dolby Digital 5.1 (640 kbps) is otherwise more limited on the side of its spatialisation (everything is tighter) even though the speakers made available to it turbine as soon as the occasion presents itself (see the musical number). The lesser magnitude also betrays its lossy encoding. The dubbing provided (among others) by José Garcia, Mylène Farmer and Marina Foïs in no way encroaches on the original mixing.
- Too old for this bullshit?
To regain his part of childhood too often forgotten, let your thoughts vouch for this sweet reverie of which the present 4K Ultra HD, full of soft A/V services, is the favorite doudou. It's a mess!
Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
