It is brought to the attention of our dear readers that, in addition to the specified and used viewing equipment, the rendering may differ from one installation to another, whether or not it is calibrated, as well as personal preferences and expectations may influence notation. Moreover, the images in the article are not representative of the edition tested.
Passionate about cinema, Sammy Fabelman spends her time filming her family. Although he was encouraged in this way by his mother Mitzi, endowed with an artistic temperament, his father Burt, an accomplished scientist, considered that his passion was above all a hobby. But when his parents decide to move to the west of the country, he discovers an upsetting reality about his mother, who is changing his future and that of his loved ones.
At the same time as he looks tenderly and kindly at his family, Spielberg tells of his youth and his desire for cinema in this intimate autobiography to the interpretation of an amazing correctness (Gabriel LaBelle, Michelle Williams, Paul Dano and Seth Rogen die the screen). And while the emotion born of the evocative power of images (capable of transcending the real), the little prodigy of Hollywood reminds us that one must always believe in his dreams. Far from being reserved for cinemaphiles, this magnificent homage to 7th art is a universal work that will speak to everyone.
IMAGE - The boy on camera
Captured in digital and film (16 mm and 35 mm), the superb photo of Janusz Kamiński find in this solid UHD Dolby Vision transfer (no compression problem to report) a weight ally.
The silver texture (natural or added in post-prod for the sake of consistency) which is perfectly homogeneous (volunteerly less during extracts of amateur films whose rendering 8 mm evolves towards 16 mm) gains in finesse and the contribution of definition, even if modest, is appreciated with more careful fine details (the grain of the skin, textile fibres, the structure of the decorations).
The colorimetric palette with hot calibration and nuanced saturation benefits from more shimmering hues (cf. Mrs. Fabelman, the Christmas garlands, the day at the beach and costumes during the prom) and a healthier carnation, the light sources that sculpt the space display a raised visual acuity (Mitzi's dance in the headlights of the family car, the beam of the projectors), and the contrast management is improved with blacks that the Blu-ray cannot reach (for even more beautiful night scenes).
SOUND - Love cry at the cinema
Calm by nature and essentially frontal even so quick to use the surround scene on multiple occasions (the derailment of the train, the progression of the tornado, the shooting of the war film, the dancing crowd at the ball), the VO Dolby TrueHD 7.1 is a pleasantly subtle track with clear dialogues, insightful dynamics and wide score (a signed skin-flowering score John Williams). If it only very rarely activates, the LFE channel does not make figuration when the narration needs it.
A little less open and more open « floating » In its spatialization, the VF Dolby Digital Plus 7.1 remains no less close to its HD consœur and is provided with careful dubbing.
CONCLUSION - Nothing happens by chance!
The prolific Tonton Spielberg (Jurassic Park, We have to save Private Ryan., Ready Player One, West Side Story of 2021, etc.) returns to the sources of his art and offers us not without modesty a remarkable lesson in cinema. And since he leaves his place to the imagination and the power of attraction of images, it is with the 4K Ultra HD edition (a/V performances having the soul of an artist) that the wonder works more!
Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
