WORK - Ants counter-attack

Everything goes for the best: Scott wrote a successful book while Hope defended humanitarian causes with the greatest dedication. Their families are finally part of their daily lives. But caught in the vast subatomic world, they are lost in a world at war where Kang the Conqueror reigns. Will they ever find their way home?

Even if dominated by a Jonathan Majors convincing in super-villain, this space opera of the vastly small opens phase 5 of the MCU in the most total chaos. For between a scenario that turns empty, a lazy staging (fields-counterfields and that's pretty much everything), a particularly badly fucked universe (the SFX are a rare ugliness) and a dramaturgy to the absent subscribers (while the threat is still very serious), this atone blockbuster with a much too light tone (which de facto destinies it to a family audience not looking at) is just a generic glubi-boulga dreaming in the plate next door (Star Wars, Flash Gordon, Inner adventure, John Carter and Avatar to name but a few). What a waste!

IMAGE - Quantum in toc

From a digital capture in 4.5K and 8K finalized in 4K, the nebulous photograph of Bill Pope (Evil Dead 3, Matrix, Scott Pilgrim, Baby Driver, Alita: Battle Angel) benefits from a solid UHD HDR10 transfer (an average bitrate 57.8 Mb/s) that enhances the sombritude of a Quantum Kingdom (by a generally attenuated brightness) deploying with increased accuracy.

The level of definition is close to perfection, the details gain in refinement (the texture of the skin, the weaving of clothes, the places visited), the voluntary fade colorimetric palette benefits from a renewed vivacity (it is notable with the red, green and blue hues) and shows a more realistic carnation, the contrasts are noticeably widened (more absorbent blacks more widespread in the shadows and whites more immaculate with the enhanced shine) and the light sources crumble the screen with an increased intensity (lasers, neon lighting, Pym particles). Compression is discreet as possible.

SON - Kang Bang

Despite lows at measured power (but not passive) and the obligation to increase the volume far beyond the reference level (to make it come to life), the VO Dolby Atmos is sufficiently engaging to enjoy this (bad) quantum trip.

The dynamics that remain in the nails make the job, the effects like the atmospheres (the lively streets, the forces in presence on the battlefield, the powers of the Conqueror etc.) wrap long for a very pleasant 360° bubble (including the « fall » in the Subatomic Dimension is the highest point) where the verticality of the mixing serves primarily as support (as with the means of air transport), the interchangeable partition of Christophe Beck is balanced and dialogues, provided with a certain degree ofdirectivity, are of great clarity.

Less and more in restraint, the VF Dolby Digital Plus 7.1 nevertheless continues to be an officer in the restitution of careful spatialization and efficient location...even if deprived of aerial activity (recoverable by activating a DSP virtualization).

CONCLUSION - A big adventure?

Insignificant even though it installs the threat around Kang the Conqueror and indigests in its overflow of nothing, this superficial copy of the SF general public that puts itself at the service of The Marvel Film Universe (not spectators, lost in the Multiverse) is saved from the subatomic catastrophe thanks to a 4K Ultra HD infinitely larger than it (antmidable A/V performances)!

Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
