WORK – A hot girl, ex-veners, and a baton
Scott Pilgrim, an inveterate 22-year-old dredger, without any other occupation than playing bass with the Sex Bob-omb, a rock garage band that can no longer be ordinary, suddenly finds itself nose to nose with the girl of her dreams. One problem arises: to conquer the heart of Ramona Flowers, Scott must first fight his seven evil executors...
This film adaptation of a Canadian comic book where the totally geek hero has to face the ex of his girlfriend, is a funny and rhythmic comedy bottled with pop culture that appropriates the codes of video games and the graphic effects of comics to give birth to a real visual slam (the huge and delusional confrontations are anthological) lined with an endearing romance thanks to characters as touching as well as staggered.
A fresh, fun and innovative film with the hallucinating universe, which became cult for 16-bit viewers.
IMAGE – Onomatopoeia, darling!
Taking advantage of a more filmic look, a frank improvement in sharpness and an unprecedented punch of colors, this UHD Dolby Vision transfer that goes further than its HD counterpart is very attractive.
The silver grain is more stable, the definition like the piqué, which were already well sharp on the Blu-ray, perfect here with sharper intimate details (faces, clothes) and more precise environmental textures (the decors), the shimmering colorimetric palette enriches with a new intensity (cf. the primary) while deepening many shades (the secondary shades), contrasts, most often extreme, benefit from richer blacks and brighter whites, and the light sources grasp a radiance (the projectors of scenes, the visual effects during fighting) including photography « You idiot. » could only dream until now.
SON – Stronger than rock!
As powerful as it is detonating, here is a particularly extravagant and perfectly balanced Dolby Atmos track where the feeling of being in a sound bubble is made every moment!
The dynamic does not hold back its blows, the spatialisation is truly upsetting, the multi-directional effects arise from everywhere (including a scene of height) with a lot of intensity, the music fills the space with extreme clarity and the bass hit hard as soon as the action arises. Moreover, while the purpose of this mixing is to « rotate » our listening, dialogues never lack clarity.
Even if the flame is still there, the small VF SD cannot claim to reach the generous madness of its conœur for lack of breadth and acoustic information (especially at the back).
CONCLUSION – Geek generation standard?
No need to go to Toronto to enjoy this Proust mandal « geek powa » since the 4K Ultra HD is available... Without having to beat evil exes out of nowhere!
