Forget the dull and uncontrasting Blu-ray image, and welcome the much better one of this UHD transfer. By offering a significant increase in stability, definition, piqué (many details are missing in HD), colors and contrasts (dark scenes gain in depth), but also a marked improvement in clarity, sharpness and cleanliness (the master has clearly been cleaned and keeps the original 35 mm grain), Sony editor will make happy fans.

And if it were necessary to specify the (huge) contribution of WCG/HDR technologies on this title, I would simply say that the colorimetric palette is much deeper (the shades of the skin) and much better saturated (orange fireballs, red or green blood), much brighter and warmer explosions/flames, much more intense lighting (lasers have more shine, stars are more sparkling, reactors are boosted to death and inlays on TV spots are brighter), better designed clouds and impressive blacks of richness.

Dolby Vision vs. HDR10

Having tested the 2017 edition that was confined to HDR10, I took advantage of this Dolby Vision spring to organize a face-to-face between the two HDR formats...

Even brighter in the high luminances (cf. the luminous exteriors), bolder in its reproduction of colours (a healthier carnation, more opulent golden hues) and more authentic in its management of contrasts (dark battles benefit from a enhanced model), this new encoding is worth the investment.

If the VF(Q) remains powerful and capable of performing, it is not able to immerse us in the heart of chaos as its 3D consister since deprived of its sound dome.
