WORK - Mask Carnival

After hitting three times in Woodsboro, after terrorizing Windsor campus and Hollywood studios, Ghostface decided to hit Big Apple, but in a city as big as New York no one will hear you scream...

After 5th opus As beta as emotional, the franchise abandons ENFIN (he is only there for the nod to the fans) his meta character (malignant falsification since the 3rd episode) to become the uncomplicated slasher that she tries to be since her teens. Certainly more agreed than in the past but so much more honest, Scream VI fully assumes his brutality (it slices with full hands, it guns without warning and it bleeds abundantly) and plays the rules of the saga from the memorable opening scene.

The action delocalised in the city allows us to introduce otherwise bolder sets, the staging is direct, the new protagonists integrated with parpaing strokes in which are much better exploited, the narrative arch that enchains the twists is certainly not subtle but seeks (and finds) priority efficiency, the tension makes its great return and the graphic murders perpetrated by a Ghostface as terrifying as clever as they are. So no need to put on a mask to say it, this 6th part IS the best follow-up to Scream original.

IMAGE - Ghostface takes Manhattan

A result of a digital capture finalized in 4K, this UHD transfer presented in Dolby Vision has to suffer from no compressive anomaly and shows the very contemporary photography (orange and cyan) of Brett Jutkiewicz.

The definition does not decline even during sequences plunged into darkness (such as those of the inaugural alley and of the abandoned cinema), the piqué gains in fine reproduction (face details, New York decors), the colorimetric palette benefits from an increased richness on many shades (the yellow dress of the film teacher, the scarmosis blood, the blue jacket of Gale Weathers, the expanses of greenery) while adding a hint of heat to the carnation, the contrasts have been consolidated for deeper blacks (the hold of Kirby Reed) and cooler whites (the masks), and the light sources reveal a enhanced shine (urban lighting, reflections on the blades, the radiation of the video projector, the interior lamps) without yet afouling the nit counter (the luminous peaks remaining contained).

SOUND - A cry in the night

Supported by a vigorous LFE channel and delivering an instant immersion, the VO Dolby Atmos is a generous soundtrack that has a lot to offer in the field of horror.

The dynamics are thundering, the voices (which can move in the sound environment) are of great clarity, the spatialization that strikes accurately diffuses painful effects and tense atmospheres to the front, back but also in the heights (the tingling of a bell, automatic announcements in the metro, the metal vibration in the trains, the resonances of the shots), and the score of Brian Tyler / Sven Faulconer (+ the theme of Gale still coming from Broken Arrow) spreads with amplitude.

Less powerful and necessarily less marked in its sound distribution (limited to five channels), the VF (with well-incorporated dubbing) nevertheless surprises as to its strength for a simple lossy track.

CONCLUSION - Take the call again?

While she was slowly dying by caricaturing her own tropes until more thirsty, franchise Scream Finally did well to bring out her blade (higher and louder on 4K Ultra HD support) with this episode that reinvented her without farting higher than her ass! Surprisingly, I'm up for the future Scream VII

Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia

[...] continue reading its lines. If you too have a little blazed ahead of the next Scream who has already suffered from (many) polemics, no doubt a double of yourself [...]
