WORK – Hope is the basis of any rebellion
Located between episodes III and IV of the saga Star Wars, the film leads us alongside ordinary individuals who, in order to remain faithful to their values, will try the impossible at the risk of their lives. They had not planned to become heroes, but in an increasingly darker era they will have to steal the plans of the Star of Death, the ultimate weapon of destruction of the Empire.
The first spin-off of the saga Star Wars, which has never worn his name better, is a dark and filthy war film (a real visual slam) rich in pieces of bravery (a galvanizing final), where the little characterization of a yet solid troupe is counterbalanced by exemplary fidelity to episode IV. He is body with the Force and the Force is with him!
IMAGE – At the heart of the Rebel Alliance
Between a state-of-the-art definition, details of greater finesse (faces, costumes and decors), denser twilight colours (the earthy shades on Jedha, the turquoise shades on Scarif) where the primaries come back to life (the blues of the sky), bolder contrasts (the appearance of the Star of Death, the white armor of the stormtroopers) and brighter light sources (cf. explosions and other laser shots), this UHD transfer from a DI 4K (a digital shooting in 6.5K) presented in HDR10 is a visual delight of all the moments.
SON – Explosions rather than discretion
Since the verticality of the sound (starting with the beating rain on Eadu) was not considered unfit to join the Imperial garrison, the sound design « StarWarsian » Perceived in 3D (in VO) does not stop making sensation... Despite a dynamic with reduced authority.
The serious ones that are striking are particularly illustrated at the end, the spatialisation is powerfully enveloping, the atmospheres (the crowd on Kafrene's ring) like the effects (blaster shots) that are finely located pass through all the channels, the score is not lacking opening and the voices are always well incorporated into the rest of the mixing.
The very satisfactory VF, large and immersive at its level, nevertheless lacks spatial address in comparison.
CONCLUSION – Mission accomplished!
Out of the Empire archives, this 4K Ultra HD equipped with a reference video presentation and soundtracks approaching, puts us at the forefront of the armed conflict alongside members of the Alliance Rebelle, where we were just spectators with the Blu-ray!
Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
