Work - The Corporate Wars

While crime is raging in Detroit following a social movement of the police and the arrival of a new drug, RoboCop and his partner are trying to enforce the law...

Savoury satires with fantastic practical effects partly due to Phil Tippett (Mad God), this 2nd component signed by the veteran Irvin Kershner (The Empire counterattack It was him) and co-written by Frank Miller (his beginnings in cinema) the monument of science-fictional action Verhoeven, but none the less remains his perfect sequel (despite a chaotic production) which the press and the spectators had set on fire when he came out.

Generous in all that she undertakes (including graphic violence) and well carried out (even though favoring form at the bottom), she vomits on the viewer her politically incorrect and abounds with memorable scenes ( RoboCop's dismemberment, Cain's operation, the encounter that turns badly to bail out the city's caisses). As funny as it is spectacular, this B over-the-top series marked by open sensitivity « comic book » of its author is nothing of a general short circuit!

« Nowadays, staying 25 seconds under the California sun is catching insolation. Because ozone no longer stops the deadly rays of the sun, man invented Sunblock 5000. (...) CAUTION: Frequent use can cause skin cancer. »

IMAGE - In Detroit Hell

IWith a new 4K scan of the original 35 mm negatives, this UHD Dolby Vision transfer to the 85 Mbps stainless bitrate proves to be for the hour, the most beautiful remaster of the year. And doing justice to the flashing photography of the ops leader Mark Irwin (Scream), this upgrade to the strictly unexpected rendering reinforces the highly robotic exoskeleton of the OCP Crime Prevention Unit 001, better known as RoboCop.

Silver granularity is finely solved by encoding (in contrast to Blu-ray where it was invasive), sharpness excels on all components of the wide frame (of course understood background) and details are incredible precision (the master HD being much softer in comparison)...

The buildings of the city, graffiti, advertising and other TV news (trammed with a deliberately lower resolution), damage to titanium alloys, synthetic fibres of bulletproof vests, decorative elements and close-ups on the faces, are actually unfolding with a greatly noticeable transparency. And so blurred there is, it is that they are integrated into the source (especially during VFX-loaded sequences).

The saturation of the colorimetric palette increases in vivacity (red Nuke capsules, spray-bomb graffiti, orange explosions), rich shades ( RoboCop blue-violet alloy) and heat carnation. As for contrasts, better balanced than in the past, they display extremely dense blacks and highly penetrating whites while maintaining excellent visibility in the dark (cf. the first mission of the project RoboCop 2).

As for light sources, the increased intensity from which they benefit provides an unprecedented shine and shine to PC monitors, metal reflections, fluorescences, gyrophars of police vehicles and above all, to the chandelier of armor d « Alex » Murphy. MaxFALL was measured at 503 cd/m2 and MaxCLL at 1012 nits.

SON - Love, Drugs and Robots

Whether you choose to mix 5.1 (24-bit, 3985 kbps), stereo MGM (24-bit, 2085 kbps) or soundtrack 2.0 LaserDisc (24-bit, 2035 kbps), these three fantastic soundtracks will fill the audiophiles. No bad choices in short.

For the most nostalgic of you, the frontal mixes benefit from an audio restitution to infallible cleanliness (no sizzling, no distortion, no breath). But for more weight (an entirely different midrange) and clarity, it is up to the MGM proposal to turn.

Then there is the multi-channel track that significantly opens the soundscape with much more attractive imagery. The noises are more expansive there (the echoes in the OCP building, the players in the arcade room), the rear scene is heard during crowded moments (fire and blood streets, demonstrations, shootings) and the basses have the necessary impact to make the deflagrations, motors and robotic falls feel properly. The dialogues are ideally prioritized and the score of Leonard Rosenman faithfully reproduced.

At the end of several passages (like when the police storms Cain's landmark), there is no doubt that activating a virtualization DSP brings a real excess wrapping (gunshots in the heights, a truck passing over the camera).

CONCLUSION - Lethal Response

100% ACTION, this is what best characterizes this 2nd mission of the 50% MAN, 50% MACHINE and 100% FLIC RoboCop, including the present 4K Ultra HD, rutillating like the robotized body of his hero (made of flesh and metal), discharges A/V benefits far from being gripped. I warn you, resisting will cause... your death!

Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
