The Assassin appears from the abyss in a diving bell and sinks into the heart of an infernal universe populated by mutant creatures and mad scientists. Soon captured, he becomes the victim of the world he is charged with destroying...
The result of a thorough work of more than 30 years, this visually revolutionary crazy project (different animation techniques are at work) that is due to Phil Tippett, genius of animatronics behind the unforgettable creatures of the original trilogy Star Wars, Robocop or Starship Troopers, pushes the limits of imagination as the future ruins of humanity, populated by monstrous creatures guided by self-destruction, explore within a maze nightmaredesque No other way. And if it is easy to lose it, the fault of an uncertain narrative, the evocative force of its images suffices to capture attention.
Dominated by the black, the « materia prima » Alchemical (you will understand to the vision of this infernal trip), the different artificially illuminated underground worlds are meticulously exposed by this solid HD transfer (a transparent compression) which displays with as much precision (admirable stitching) as clarity (contrasts accomplished) of the pushed details, diapree colorimetry, sustained blacks and clear brightness. And if the texture varies all along, it is because the film was captured in digital but also in 35 mm.
An English mix 5.1 (the work is almost completely silent) with the striking dynamic that delivers striking spatialization (between direct effects and disconcerting atmospheres), a ubiquitous rear scene (profusion mecanico-organic sounds), a visceral score as wide as enveloping and deliberately overflowing bass.
Monster movie of a visionary artist, Mad God takes advantage of a limited prestige edition (an exclusive digipack with facsimile in English, ten photos and the poster of the film) barred with bonuses (interview, interviews, making-of and much more) where the technique deployed by this Blu-ray amplifies the sensuality of this radical cinema experience!
Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
