WORK - The rubber demon

Surgery of pages of Clive Barker (Hellraiser, Cabal, Candyman), this mischievous and horrificly molassonic adaptation, of which the star creature (never credible), one of the most kitsch of horror cinema, is essentially gesturing and groaning, is a beta slasher where nothing goes. Bad filmed (my God that it's flat), badly written (the British novelist didn't even recognize his writing), badly played (no one believes it) and poorly lit (no atmosphere), this Z series stuffed in the poop is a source of mockery.

What the fuck?
Resulting from a recent 4K restoration (made in 2017 from the original 35 mm negatives), this HD presentation firmly encoded in AVC delivers stable images, rather clean (still a few small dusts), bright and well detailed.
The granular texture is preserved, the 1.85 frame is very sharp, the definition hardly weakens (if this is voluntary in special effects plans), the pique is excellent (to not miss anything from the « rubbery size » The colorimetric palette with sharp tints is nicely bright (the greenery, the red eyes of Rawhead, the blue divination at the end) and the contrasts, perfectly supported, show blacks with beautiful density.
SON - GRRRRR!
While soundtrack 5.1 available in other countries has unfortunately not crossed our borders, the dual-mono VO presented in DTS-HD MA is clear and respects original mixing without breath or distortion. The dialogues are clear, the effects surprisingly powerful and the score of the former rocker Colin Towns, even so thin in its rendering, plays it terrified in the first degree.
Less well balanced and more choked, the monophonic VF 2.0 remains no less very correct. Even so pleasant, the dubbing period is too detached from the atmospheres.
CONCLUSION - Animal, plant or mineral?
Joining the famous collection of anxiety Rimini Editions (Alice, Sweet Alice, Bloody party, Comet Night) in its traditional digitpack collector Blu-Ray (concluded A/V services) + DVD + booklet (His majesty the monster written by Marc Toulelec), this small-footed horror has found a funeral monument far too tailor-made for her.
