WORK – God without confession?

Alice Spages, 12, lives with her mother and sister Karen, whom she loves to scare. Karen is about to celebrate her first communion when her body is found atrociously mutilated in the church. Some people think Alice might be responsible for the murder...

Against the background of ubiquitous Catholic faith and prefiguring the slasher genre two years before Halloween, this horrific thriller of the 70s breaks the codes of the genre of the time and breaks the innocence of childhood. The atmosphere is unhealthy, the nihilistic narrative, the deep psychological violence, the icy interpretation (the ambiguous Paula Sheppard) and the bloody murders. Hostile towards the Church, this radical work that borrows from the Italian giallo is challenging for the nerves.

IMAGE – Get off the masks.

Drawn from a master 2K created from a 35 mm print, the peaty image that retains its organic appearance is as stable as possible.

Not showing any digital manipulation, she accepts her age with fluctuating definition and contrasts. But don't be mistaken, the remasterization remains serious since the details are very regularly dense, the colorimetric palette richly balanced (the yellowish calibration of the photograph is respected) and the depth of the blacks pronounced. However, a little stronger compression would have been blessed bread.

SON – Body delivered, blood spilled

A narrow but dynamic monophonic soundtrack where sound effects such as partition are of great clarity.

Cleaner and more balanced (dialogues), the VO is to be preferred over the VF which must withstand a little breath and a dubbing (however successful) taking over the rest of the mixing.

CONCLUSION – Don't turn around.

Recognized late, this horrific little nugget that kills well arrives us for the first time in Blu-ray in France in the prestigious collection anguish of the publisher Rimini Éditions. So you don't have to give yourself holy water to attack the benign frogs and other traditionalists with the most rigid dogmas!

Alice, Sweet Alice

Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
