WORK - Not Dead Yet

No one can explain how this all happened, but this morning the world is more than a huge nightmare following an inexplicable pandemic that turns the population into blood-thirsty dead people. After miraculously escaping from her neighborhood, Ana Clark barricades herself with a small group of survivors in a shopping mall...

Grandloquous staging of Zack Snyder (Batman v Superman, Justice League, Army of the Dead), « end of the world » chaotic, haletante sequences (pre-generic, bus flight) and judiciously-lifted zombies (brighter and harassing) fill the shelves of this excellent remake of the great classic Zombie of the George A. Romero which, with efficiency and without cynicism, updates the original opus to showcase a visceral nightmare less political but more spectacular where the fashion of gore carnage makes a frantic return.

« When there is no room in hell, the dead return to earth. »

IMAGE - Fresh blood flush

Coming from a new 4K scan of the original 35 mm Kodak negative and a scan of the DI 2K for the additional ten minutes of the Directors Cut (a slightly lower quality), this UHD Dolby Vision transfer with stunning compression (an average bitrate of 84.2 Mbps) is to date, and by far, the best way to enjoy full photography « Bayhem » (heat and saturation you want) from the chief operator Matthew F. Leonetti.

The particularly eye-catching definition is more variable (large planes gain a lot in sharpness), the ultra-piked details (but without reinforcing the contours this time) show exceptional finesse (the CGIs being in fact more visible than in the past) and the granular structure, fully preserved (this was less the case before), displays with a completely different refinement. Along the way, the previous Blu-ray (US and FR) are soft and artificially textured.

Of an already exalted nature, the colorimetric palette enjoys a notable improvement in the brightness of its hues. The root dominance of the interiors and orange-yellow exteriors is accentuated, where the reds/greens/blues reach a completely different depth.

More « natural »contrasts greatly improve the legibility of shadows in the dark (birth, mission to put the juice back) thanks to better staggered ink blacks and intensified whites. Extreme, light sources (signs, lamps, lighthouses) shine with a thousand lights. MaxFALL was measured at 559 cd/m2 and MaxCLL at 3763 nits.

Let's go to the mall, everyone! 🎶

If a Dolby Atmos soundtrack would have added a significant amount to the mix, there is really nothing to say about this track DTS-HD MA 5.1 (24-bit, 3973 kbps) whose robustness and acoustic fury are no longer to be proved since time.

The dynamics are furious (the shots fired, the attacks of the living dead), the effects and/or atmospheres invade the space with great precision (the rales and movements of the zombies, the echo of the voices in the hall and the underground parking of the shopping centre) not without many panoramic noises (cf. the escape from the neighborhood), the partition as oppressive as it is aggressive of Tyler Bates (Pearl, John Wick) is faithfully transcribed, the LFE channel that is in the bundle delivers glorious bass (explosions of propane tanks) and the dialogues are of great clarity.

CONCLUSION - It's time for sales!

Ferocious and pessimistic, this tribute to the zombie flick driven by the devastating rage of its flesh eaters brings down our consumer society with even more bite on 4K Ultra HD support (a/V voracious services). Want to go shopping?

Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
