WORK – He's my last asshole!
Detective Knight is haunted by his past. As the city prepares to celebrate Halloween, a robbery turns badly and its partner is seriously injured during the intervention of the security forces. Knight then gets on the robber track...
If it recycles the proven formula of the polar action, this trilogy co-written and carried out by Edward Drake (space turnips) Anti-Life and Cosmic Sin) is not an umpteenth scam « Bouse » Willis but just a little series B Saturday night nostalgic saga Die Hard. The staging is properly packed, the scenarios that are more complex than usual (for DTV hears) maintain suspense and the antagonists, surprisingly little archetypal, embody the shadow part of the lone hero (less present than they are on the screen) as well as the reflection of the cross of America during three emblematic festivals (Halloween, Christmas and Independence Day). And while we must be aware of the overall relative quality of these three small productions, they are nonetheless pleasant to follow.
IMAGE – It's not good to get old!
A result of digital capture, these HDR10 UHD transfers frankly improve the contrast ratio and really expand the colorimetric space even if urban photographs fade over episodes.
The finest details are best made (the pores of the skin, wrinkles, environments) even though the depth of field is not too great (except in Independence) and the edges of the frame often blurred (the rest being a rare precision), and the granular filter of the first two opus benefits from a stronger encoding.
The globally flashing colours (many more fads in the 3rd flap) gain in richness (especially the red and blue tones), the contrasts more or less harmonious by nature have been judiciously weighted (the image is globally brighter) for less blocked blacks (but sometimes shallow) and less overexposed whites (see snowfall), and the light sources are displayed with a supple brilliance (the gyrophars of the intervention vehicles).
SON – Pan pan motherfucker!
If a few bullets and small atmospheres (the streets, the discotheque, the banks) can get lost in the back, it's a soundtrack « heavily armed » at the front and not very dynamic (she barely wakes up during the action scenes) that we are dealing with. As a result, the shootings lack a terrible impact (the LFE channel has deserted) and there is little more than the score and the voices (solidly exuded by the plant) that seem to hold the skills of their function.
Of course, these are (large) limits due to the meagre budgets allocated to these three fantastic productions... These discs deliver this distinctive acoustic with as much clarity as precision.
CONCLUSION – Yippee ki-yay, I lay down my arms!
Suffering from aphasia for many years, hence its reduced presence to cameros in many low-end DTVs (22 films in four years), Bruce Willis was forced to end his acting career in the spring of 2022. And as he became entangled in increasingly troubled B series, the trilogy Detective Knight presents itself as an appreciable song of the swan in which he leaves the scene exclaiming: « Happy 4th of July, motherfucker! ». Goodbye and thank you, you will forever remain in our memories as indestructible John McClane.
