WORK – Previously on Underworld…
In the Middle Ages, the balance reigns between vampires led with an iron hand by Viktor and their servants the lycans. But when Viktor's daughter gets caught up with Lucian, a lycan, it is the beginning of a long bloody war that will continue until today.
Despite the fact that CGIs are sometimes visible, this prequel Patrick Tatopoulos takes back the recipe of his elders whom he transposes in the Middle Ages. The rhythm is sustained, the Romantic-Gothic tragedy works, the action scenes are spectacular (the impressive load of lycans) and the mythology of the saga continues to develop. In short, a good small series B that allows us to better identify the issues of previous editions.
IMAGE – Breaking chains
The video noise that could appear on the Blu-ray disc is only a distant memory and the increased resolution benefits the details that are much clearer (face textures, the coat of werewolves and lycans, used stone decorations, background of exterior environments, armors and other costumes).
The bluish colorimetry so familiar (always the part so) takes advantage of brighter and deeper primaries (blues and reds) while better nuance its greys, a solid boost was brought to the contrast values (denser blacks and brighter whites) without ever occulting the richness of the shadows, and the light sources were accentuated for reflections to the deeper moonlight (armures, aqueous surfaces) and more burning flames.
SON – All Hail Lucian
A dynamic soundtrack with perfectly localized effects (the arrows, the prison atmospheres, the forces present in the final battle) and with always intelligible voices where the LFE channel, with the stated power, shakes the walls several times (the blows carried, the screams) and where the score of Paul Haslinger is very well ventilated.
Spilling air effects (Wolf-Wolfs regularly jump above the victims) and more striking, the VO Dolby Atmos is still better equipped than the VF(F) Dolby Digital 5.1 to fight blood suckers.
CONCLUSION – The Hair War
For the beautiful eyes of her pointed canine Juliet, a hirsute Spartacus will call hers to revolt against their masters with a fury of defeating tenfold on 4K Ultra HD support (A/V performances prints of the warrior spirit)!
