WORK – Nate's first steps
Nathan Drake, a clever and fearless thief, is recruited by the seasoned treasure hunter Victor « Sully » Sullivan to find Ferdinand Magellan's fortune, disappeared 500 years ago. What first looks like a simple break-up eventually becomes an unbridled race around the globe to seize treasure before the merciless Santiago Moncada, who is convinced that his family is the legitimate heir of this fortune...
Coming from the eponymous videoludic franchise and checking all the boxes of the big show adventure film, this Indiana Jones 2.0 is a good popcorn entertainment despite unobtrusive special effects. The journey is displacing, the playful dynamic vivaces, the steady pace, the (unrobable) leaping adventures, the scenario « Unpublished » (a prequel to the games) even though the strings have already been explored in his colleagues, and the heroes (muscles) accomplices. A new film saga is launched...
IMAGE – Worldwide
Captured in 3.4K digital before a 2K supervision (the DI), this image that « Hang on » the retina is carefully restored by this UHD Dolby Vision transfer.
The definition does not weaken at any time, the details are excellent (faces, clothes, decors and other accessories) without yielding to too modern a slurry (the pique is in no way aggressive) and the digital grain did not make the move. But when it comes to an upscaled master, the difference with its excellent HD counterpart remains slight on these points.
On the other hand, there is a real reinforcement of the colors « exotic » (primarys are much richer) coupled with increased heat (see sunrises and sunsets). This is also the case with contrasts, more pronounced (blacks are denser and whites are clearer), and light sources, better clasped (clouds) and otherwise more illuminating (urban lighting, reflections on bodywork).
SON – Below cards
A dynamic at all times, dialogues of great clarity, a directivity of the effects regularly spectacular (the whistle of the balls, the fall of the boxes), ubiquitous atmospheres at the back (the passage to the club, the presence of the wind), well scripted sound verticality (the two heliported caravels), very solid basses and an enveloping (discreet) score, for a mix Dolby Atmos (reserved for the VO) immersive and never running out of power.
Less (it lacks some breath) even if well distributed, the VF encoded in DTS-HD MA 5.1 is not also « Maus » his rival.
CONCLUSION – Gold adaptation?
Nathan Drake is back, this time on a large screen, in a « origin story » rather worthy of Naughty Dog's cult series. The terrain is known, the atmosphere and the characters too, but it is in 4K Ultra HD that his young rouble hero reaches his full potential!
