WORK – Adolescent fantasy

Isabella Swan, 17, moved to Forks, a small rainy town in Washington State, to live with her father. She expects her new life to be as boring as the city itself. In high school, however, she is terribly intrigued by the behavior of a strange brother, two girls and three boys. Bella falls madly in love with one of them, Edward Cullen. A sensual and dangerous relationship then begins between the two young people: when Isabella understands that Edward is a vampire, it is already too late.

Film adaptation faithful to the original spirit and history, Twilight, Chapter 1: Fascination is a romantic work (not an action film with vampires) with an attractive and captivating atmosphere (the excellent BO and monochrome photography are for something).

Young actors are convincing and physical attraction (the adolescent impulses) between the two main actors is palpable. However, it is a pity that the fantastic side of the school has become overwhelmed and that American clichés of high school students exist. A truly fascinating start of promising saga.

IMAGE – Very little hair!

Approved by Catherine Hardwicke and Elliot Davis, this 4K HDR transfer is beautiful.

The silver texture of the work is restored with a lot of finesse, the definition is slightly increased (the foliage of the forest) and the already dreadful piqué of Blu-ray leaves a hint of additional details during close-ups.

The colours are more monochromatic (a very controlled desaturation) and cold with a few larger primarys (including reds), slightly less sharp contrasts and deeper blacks allow images to be judiciously darkened (the atmosphere really benefits from it), and the brightness of light sources is clearly increased (Edward's skin in contact with the sun's rays, reflections on wet floors and interior lighting).

SON – Full Moon

An immersive and homogenous VO Atmos with convincing spatialisation, well restored (especially subtle) atmospheres on all channels (height included during the baseball match with wind and thunder), appropriate rear activity, airy music and clear voices. Only the bass channel, a little backward, should have imposed more.

CONCLUSION – Ceder or resist the forbidden fruit?

For its 10 years (this album was released on October 23, 2018), the first chapter of the successful saga Twilight made « bite » by a 4K Ultra HD edition madly in love with this devouring passion even if chaste!

Twilight, Chapter 1: Fascination

Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
