WORK – Adventurers of the Virtual World
2045. The world is on the brink of chaos. Human beings take refuge in OASIS, a virtual universe developed by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday. Before disappearing, he decided to bequeath his immense fortune to anyone who will discover the digital Easter egg that he took care to hide in the OASIS. Winning bait causes global competition. But when a young boy, Wade Watts, who does not have the profile of a hero, decides to participate in the treasure hunt, he is immersed in a parallel world that is both mysterious and disturbing...
A joyous geek show in the possible to the virtuoso staging, the mind-blowing imagination, the multiple references (more or less hidden), the visionary scenario, the charismatic actors, the quaint action scenes and the innovative special effects. Ready Player One It is therefore retro-modern science fiction which is rejoicing and ultra-generous and pays a vibrant tribute to pop culture. Very great art adapted from the bestseller Player One !
IMAGE – The Xanadu of tomorrow
Tailed for the Ultra HD, that's little to say that to make sure that the images delivered during the sequences inside the OASIS will end up convincing the most sceptical about the existing differences with the Blu-ray.
Turns off and fades next door, they are crushed by the all-digital and colorful splendor of these many passages on the 4K Ultra HD, helped it is true by the HDR skate (very present with its lights, reflections, magics and neons everywhere) and the WCG's opulence (just see the red dress of Art3mis to persuade it) which have the state of mind not to be for free blinking, even though it is true that the extreme side of the contrasts is still accentuated. With a truly dazzling sharpness and a level of simply prodigious detail, they exploding the pique of the already excellent HD master.
And if the scenes taking place in the real world do not mark such an important gap, the « fault » to a more tristunet (it's grey) and cinematic bias (a delicious granular layer, rather soft contours and some blurred points), there is also something to exult with more dazzling (often diffuse) lighting (light of the day through windows), better designed textures (car wrecks), more expressive contrasts and more subtly nuanced (usually abyssal) blacks.
To make it simple, the sublime photography concocted by Janusz Kaminski (AI Artificial Intelligence, Minority Report, World War of 2005, Pentagon Papers and by the way) is magnified by this exceptional UHD Dolby Vision transfer.
SOUND – Crying from the Heart to Dreamers
A truly hallucinating acoustic richness, this Atmos mixing (DTS-HD MA 5.1 not tested) that plays the sound bubble map is there to deliver a memorable home-cinema moment.
Precisely and immersive (a spatialisation of madness), it diffuses resounding effects (cf. motor racing) and enveloping atmospheres (the « life » in OASIS) on all the speakers put to its contribution. The surrounding canals are thus heavily used (especially during the final battle) and the aerial scene delivers a considerable amount of information (flying objects, gleaning pieces, a T-Rex, King Kong, drones, alarms, various projectiles, Mechagodzilla, etc.).
And then the dialogues are clear, the score ofAlan Silvestri keep flying with a depressing magnitude and the bass have an important seat without taking over the rest. In VO as in VF, this is a demonstration soundtrack.
CONCLUSION – Insert corner? >YES
Steven Spielberg released the great game with this fun entertainment blockbuster placed under the sign of pop culture where the quest at the Easter Eggs will be easier on 4K Ultra HD support!
