Adapted from Charles Gaines' eponymous book, this sadly forgotten tragi-comédia is a pure product of the 70s whose apparent lightness condemns the ferocity of capitalism as well as the disdain of the bourgeoisie of the southern states (we are in Birmingham in Alabama). Imperfect (confounding and editing, caricatural characters) but escaping freedom (similar to its protagonists interpreted by the clothesman) Jeff Bridges, the sparkling Sally Field and the mysterious Arnold Schwarzenegger), this radiography of a certain American youth supposedly inappropriate is a singular work very pleasant to (re)discover.

IMAGE - Between two worlds
Coming from a remaster HD (and unfortunately not from a restoration) certainly uneven but far from being bad, this transfer 1080p takes care of the vintage photography of Victor J. Kemper (Audrey Rose, Nimitz) despite some imperfections.
It happens that the copy has not been perfectly cleaned (white dots and scratches of this one), that the definition weakens in places (but does not seem too soft) and that some blacks are slightly crushed, but apart from that, not a single trace of digital manipulation on the horizon.
The encoding is impeccable, the images are pleasantly stable, the silver texture is displayed in all its density, the piqué which is globally precise unfolds beautiful fine details and the retro colorimetric palette is quite healthy.
SOUND - The weight of the worries is weight building 🎶
Even though remastered a long time ago, this monophonic soundtrack encoded in DTS-HD MA dual mono does not suffer from any acoustic imperfection (no breath or distortion) and returns very faithfully the sounds necessarily dated from the original mixing.
The dynamics are more than decent, the dialogues are well detached, the music is projecting properly and the noises are in no way narrowed. For a track of this format, the result is rather large and has a noticeable opening.
Due to a printing concern, the jacket mentions a VF missing from the disc. Nevertheless, this release addressed to passionate cinemaphiles and collectors, the VO with non-taxed subtitles imposed itself.
CONCLUSION - Become who you are!
Carefully developed by the brand new editor Bubbel Pop*, this superb limited print mediabook containing Blu-ray (deserving A/V performances), DVD and a book of 100 pages (Living Dangerously by Christophe Chavdia) to know all about the genesis of the film, puts a spotlight on this unusual dramatic comedy typical of the New Hollywood having revealed the « Austrian oak » (rewarded in 1977 from the Golden Globe of the Year's Men's Revelation).
In addition, almost 80 minutes of video bonuses were created specifically for this edition, namely: Joanna Cassidy Remembers Stay Hungry (12 min), Alpha woman by Joanna Cassidy (6 min), Arnold becomes Schwarzy by Samuel Blumenfeld (16 min) and The end of the new Hollywood by Jean-Baptiste Thoret (42 min).
