WORK - Ghosts are radominating

Back at the iconic New York fire station, the Spengler family will have to team up with the original members of S.O.S. Ghosts to protect their home and save the world from a second ice age.

If Phantom SOS: Heritage had managed to bring a wind of freshness to the saga, this Ice threat Inspiration failure (to a screenplay detail nearby) serves us to warm up in a overflow of nostalgia that stifles the (re)born flame. Remains a small and timely green update, friendly young protagonists, a good child humor that makes you smile, pleasant visuals even if all-round and a cute interdimensional relationship (the only novelty of this opus).

« - What's that? - The thrill of death. The power to kill simply by fear. Your arteries become torrents of ice, your skeleton breaks, and the last thing you will see is your tears freezing before you sink. »

IMAGE - Blizzard on Big Apple

From a digital capture finalized in 4K, this UHD Dolby Vision transfer to the average bitrate of 77.5 Mbit/s and to the HEVC compression rarely visible (if this is the emanation of a light color banding behind Garraka's face during one of its appearances) respects the urban atmosphere over the year (to stick to the original films, the grain less) set up by the director of photography Eric Steelberg.

The definition is remarkably precise (the streets of New York are just behind your windows), the details gain somewhat in subtlety (face hair, textile fibres, interior decor) and sharpness is exemplary (see the texture of the mini bibendums). However, saturation and contrasts differ little from Blu-ray, an aesthetic charter.

The chromatic palette dominated by blue and sepia colours only too rarely benefits from the increased depth of the WCG (except in the esoteric shop) since voluntarily on the reserve, the dark scenes that find their equilibrium in the restitution of blacks to the measured density are barely more dark and the light sources, often on the hold (an average luminance of 187 cd/m2 and a MaxCCL of 518 nits with peaks rarely exceeding the value of 400), display a resurgence of brightness (the gyrophares of the Ecto-1, the effluves, the Melody incandescence).

SOS Ghosts: The Ice Threat

Who are you gonna call?

The VO Dolby Atmos, which is not subtle but has a formidable efficiency, shows sustained use of all the channels at its disposal.

Spectral appearances and the ice storm invade the listening room, the dynamics impress, the paranormal effects and other technological gadgets rush to the door of the barracks, the verticality of the mixing is wisely requested (the race-continuation with the dragon of the sewers of Hell, the experimental device of extraction of the orb in the latest lab), the dialogues resist the sound whirlwind, the interchangeable music of the Dario Marianelli and the cult song of Ray Parker, Jr. (which sounds like a recovery) benefit from optimal ventilation, and the LFE channel balances good underwaters.

Less extensive but generous in its horizontal spatialization, the VF DTS-HD MA 5.1 has excellent dubbing.

CONCLUSION - Cold shower?

If this 5th demonstration of franchise SOS Ghosts blows the hot and cold, the present 4K Ultra HD warms the atmosphere with A/V services far from being chilly. Arm the proton packs!

Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
