WORK – No, but say, is it good or not?

In 1969, television star Rick Dalton and stuntman Cliff Booth, his long-time lining, continued their careers in an industry they no longer recognized...

A rich and exciting filmphile journey to the end of Hollywood's Golden Age, Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood is a fun as well as melancholy ride in the Los Angeles of 60s/70s worn by a crazy casting. Ode to the 7th art ultra-referenced and furiously nostalgic, this masterpiece « cache » without doubt the most personal film of its author-director, the immense Quentin Tarantino. A real movie pleasure!

IMAGE – Everyone's beautiful, are you sure?

With a permanent sophistication, the magnificent photograph signed by the great Ops chef Robert Richardson is enhanced by a beautiful UHD HDR10 transfer.

In addition to the phenomenal precision (a Digital Intermediate 4K) that Blu-ray can only think of, the warm and sunny image continues to be seduced by an incredible colorimetric palette (better saturation of the primaries, increased density of the reds), prodigious contrasts (the period decorations are better cut into low light), a bathed light of a completely different radiance (all lighting is reinforced) and a restitution of the grain (and dust) that is more refined (especially during sequences captured in 16 mm and 8 mm). It's beautiful!

SON – He who has ears to hear, hear!

Very important for diving head down into the atmosphere of the places visited, the large soundtrack is as precise as enveloping.

Adorned with musical choices (a true musical journey to California in the late 1960s) wonderfully integrated into the film, she shows great clarity (cf. dialogues) and amazing acoustic richness (abundance of atmospheres)... Especially since the rear scene (a little less detailed on the VF) never lacks life.

And in order to take full advantage of the enormous performance of the actors, the VO is obviously to be preferred.

CONCLUSION – Every good thing has an end...

Benefiting from an excellent 4K Ultra HD edition that adds to the glamorous age of the past, Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood is a declaration of sincere love for cinema. So what are you waiting for to cross this changing Hollywood?

Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood

Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia

[...] Resulting from a 4.6K digital shooting (Arri Alexa 35), this sublime and very solid UHD Dolby Vision transfer (no compressive anomaly for an average bitrate measured at 60.9 Mb/s) does justice to the photo deliberately tristounette (no sun shade) « Traditional » by Robert Richardson (Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood).
