WORK - Atomic Brune

During the desperate break of a pharmacy, a junkie attends the savage massacre of her companions by the police. Hebetia, missing, kills a policeman. Sentenced to life for murder, she will have a chance to redeem herself by signing with the state a bloody and relentless pact, making her a government murderer.

Forced and fragile Anne Parillaud in the role of his life, the fourth (and best) film of Luc Besson (Valerian and the City of the Thousand Planets, Dogman) is a thriller of espionage with ardent rhythm and staging, as you saw, which, behind the spectacular action to the aesthetic violence, reveals itself in modern tragedy where the intimate (the sweetness of romance) brings a minimum rest to her heroine « Bessonian » (The Fifth Element, Anna), the first of a long list... Sometimes for the best, often for the worst (Angel-A, Colombia, Lucy).

« A white smile, Sitting on a branch, I catch him by the tail, and then I make knots! »

IMAGE - 8th aisle, number 30

Original 35 mm negatives scanned in 5K, Gaumont and VDM have entrusted the calibration of this new 4K restoration to Pascal Bousquet and not Yvan Lucas, the man behind this post originally, for reasons of timing. But rest assured, point of revisionism on the horizon and a UHD Dolby Vision transfer from all beauty to the average bitrate of 56.9 Mbps.

The copy is exemplary cleanliness, the silver texture fully preserved (unlike the disc of Sony, however drawn from the same master, where an insignificant DNR operates) and the increased resolution clearly visible. The increased definition is evident in the streets of Paris, the restitution of fine details clearly improved (cf. close-ups on faces) and a small surplus image, found on all four sides, very apparent.

The photograph of the chief operator Thierry Arbogast (The Purple Rivers) Sees its delicately accentuated hues (the atmosphere heavily bluish during opening and slightly orange during dinner at the apartment) and its contrasts, sliced as in the 90s, enhanced...

The primaries thus gain in vivacity (it is noticeable from the generic with the red letters), the greenish drift of Blu-ray has been corrected (for a otherwise healthier carnation since more dew), the blacks have a completely different density (the costumes of Cheky Karyo, the embassy garden) and the light sources, better trimmed (the windows now overlooking the outside), acquire realism (the ceiling lights of the training center, the Christmas illuminations). MaxFALL was measured at 173 cd/m2 and MaxCLL at 316 nits.

SOUND - Cry baby, cry baby 🎶

Proposed in DTS-HD MA 2.0 (24-bit, 2020 kbps) and 5.0 (24-bit, 3434 kbps), this soundtrack from the original Dolby SR mix does not do in the acoustic unedited (also the American edition to the extent that it embarks the same mix 5.0 in a 5.1 container, which is more in 16-bit) since it is identical to previous releases on French soil. Too bad that the Dolby TrueHD 5.1 track of the 2008 Blu-ray US, produced by a remix, was not taken back here...

As compared to the latter, these proposals are less immersive (a attenuated opening) and require a clipper (explosions and other shots being choked). However, they benefit from a better detachment of voices (audible, centered dialogues) and a greater extent on the ultra-identifiable (and all-dual) score.Eric Serra, faithful collaborator of the director.

For the rest, spatialisation is efficient (urban life, the tabbed at the restaurant and the detonation of the shots exploiting well the surround channels) even if measured and bass, despite the absence of a dedicated LFE channel, punctually energetic.

CONCLUSION - Until Leon...

Visual and narrative archetype of Besson's cinema (we like or don't like), this black film model in high heels turns into a fatal weapon on 4K Ultra HD support. It must be said that, prepared for the occasion, the A/V services know a-bu-ser of their femininity!

Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
