WORK - A dog life

As a child, Douglas was abused by a violent father who then threw him into the dogs. Instead of attacking him, they protected him and became his allies. As an adult, still traumatized and leading a marginal life, Douglas will find his salvation thanks to the love that his dogs carry.

Failing any realism (a lively live comic book) to better embrace the tale that it is, this psychological drama queerness in which violence runs alongside innocence cannot leave indifferent because of its burlesque madness and its funeral charm. And even if she deprives herself of subtlety (his wicked, his spiritual references), this characterology of a Shakespearean freak (magistrally interpreted by a Caleb Landry Jones literally possessed) banished the company signs the mordant return of the Luc Besson (in a disguised self-portrait?) of Subway, Nikita and Leon.

« Wherever there is an unfortunate, God sends a dog. »

IMAGE - Show white leg

From a 6K capture and completed in 4K, the image of this UHD Dolby Vision transfer unpacks with much more homogeneity the madness that illuminates the darkness of a photograph (signed Colin Wandersman) having dog.

The video compression HEVC does not miss aplomb (passing the digital noise of its HD counterpart), the contribution in terms of definition is really significant (cf. the broad planes and brick buildings in the background) and the level of detail benefits from an undisputed leap forward: from the features of Douglas' face to the hairs of his fur friends, so the sharp gain jumps to the eyes where the Blu-ray is sometimes waxy.

Calibration Dolby Vision which decreases light (it is a little darker) but accentuates with a large leg the intensity of the lighting sources (gyrophars, the spots of the cabaret lodges), removes reddish drifts from the planes and yellowish of the carnation (otherwise healthier here below). Therefore, much more nuanced, the colorimetric palette can unearth the oppressed green shades of SDR encoding. And according to common use, primarys gain in vivacity. As for the more fervent contrasts, they enhance the readability of monochromatic flashbacks of childhood and scenes plunged into darkness.

SON - In the NAME of GOD

Even if the speech is monopolized (with dialogues of great clarity), this soundtrack Dolby Atmos benefits from a palpable extension of the surrounds (the ricochet of the projectiles during the final action scene) and from a verticality that fully assumes (the beating rain, voices, the thunder that roars, an airplane, the plaster of a facade that slashes).

As immersive as it is balanced, it uses a strong dynamic at the right time (capable of deploying a felted atmosphere before a coumac comes violently to break the tranquillity of the place), manipulates deep bass (threatening storm from the beginning, shots) and lets breathe the atmospheric score ofEric Serra.

CONCLUSION - Man's best friend?

Inspired by a true story (a battered child forced to live in a cage with dogs), this flamboyant return to black for the old nabab (controversy) of French cinema did not caress success at the box office... But its output on 4K Ultra HD (from A/V performances to lick the babines) should allow it to get out of the gutter!

Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
