WORK – Stuff with chainsaw
While Leatherface has a heartbeat for one of her victims, the cannibal family continues its macabre exploits in Texas...
Greatly offbeat, this horrific comedy (yes!) with macabre humor and grunge universe is a much more crazy and bloodthirsty (but less peasy and traumatic) sequel to the awakened nightmare of Massacre with chainsaw, where the hippies of the 70s make way for the yuppies of the 80s. And in this piece of stuffing lard that slices into the life of the Reagan society, it is in good tone to draw the chainsaws instead of the colts.
IMAGE – Fort Alamo of Hell!
From a 4K scan of the original 35 mm negative, this HDR10 UHD transfer to exemplary stability appears to be truly impressive.
The source is in perfect condition, the silver grain increases in density and homogeneity, the resolution is in sharp increase and the details are even more macabre (the masks of flesh, the misty costumes, the surreal sets).
The colorimetric palette that is well saturated is more engaging with stronger primaries (blue sky, red blood) and a more natural carnation, the excellent range of contrast benefits from reinforced blacks (the dark corners reveal themselves with much more precision) and rusty whites, and the extremely licked light sources (cf. kaleidoscopic underground lighting) unfold with a completely different radiance.
⚠️ Some readers and/or diffusers encounter problems with the HDR layer, for abnormally reddish skin tones.
SON – K-OKLA Red River Rock ‘n
True to the theatrical experience (the bottom of the spectrum remains light), this stereophonic mix (encoded in DTS-HD MA) produces, not without perfect clarity, chichi-free sound effects, a dynamic of mechanical noise from chain saws, tangible atmospheres (such as the collapse of underground galleries), an impacting crazy score (by Tobe Hooper in person) and dialogues, generously vulgar, audible in all circumstances.
CONCLUSION – The gore fair?
Commercial disaster in the rooms of the 1980s where it disconcerted its audience (the formula of the original is not repeated), this burlesque satire of capitalist America can today express itself in all its demeasurement in 4K Ultra HD. Because in view of his « bleeding » A/V services, this edition is not likely to run out of gas!
Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
