WORK - Ghosts of Marx

In the year 2200 on Mars, Aline Ruby, an obstinate private detective, and Carlos Rivera, his android partner, are hired to investigate the disappearance of a student in cybernetics...

When cyberpunk science fiction mixes with the paranoid black film of the 70s in a stripped graphic style where realism combines with japanime, the evils of our modern society are at the heart of an investigation influenced by the best (Blade Runner, Chinatown, Ghost in the Shell, Terminator 2). And while the oppression of the proletariat reminds us of the exploitation of robots (as a metaphor for oppressed minorities), Jérémie Périn critical in its timeless dystopia of capitalism, liberalism and spatial utopia of Elon Musk & Co. Well animated and clairvoyant in his reflections, this French animated feature film (for an adult audience) confirms the vitality of the genre in Hexagone.

« What did Jun Chow do to that robot? »

IMAGE - Animated Future

Designed and produced in digital form (a DI 4K), this elegant and unfurnished animation that perfectly combines 2D (for humans) and 3D (for robots), increases clarity on 4K Ultra HD support even if the colour banding of a handful of planes persists. Reflection made, wouldn't it simply be inherent to the source?

The master is of absolute cleanliness (the slight silver emulsion is agreed), the definition is a higher strand, the level of detail is more precise (cf. the increased sharpness of the environments) and the compression is of high hold (an average bitrate of 82.1 Mbit/s).

The beautiful colours (typed polar d-antan) show even more remarkable saturation and increased vivacity (the luminous elements), contrasts are better incarnate with perfectly nuanced blacks (space) and purer whites (the clouds, Roberta Williams' long tank top), and the lights show a multiplicity of brightness (the neons are narcotic).

SOUND - Human After All

Sleek falsification with a dynamic vivacity, this blend encoded in DTS-HD MA 5.1 is full of sound details to make the 23rd century credible.

Precisely, ample and generous in his rear exploitation (the action scenes, the nightclub), he used well a striking LFE channel (the explosion of a car, the take-off of a ship) and was rhythmized by electro-rock music with ethereal sounds signed by French composers Fred April and Philippe Monthaye.

But if the dialogues are clear, the French dubbing (the voices of Léa Drucker, Mathieu Amalric and Sébastien Chassagne) is terribly flat (the fact that they worked without images, only the text, did not have to help)... Unlike German, much more expressive.

- On Mars, is it going back?

An icy portrait of the future liberal dreamed by some, this hard SF race that questions humanity turns out to be an ambitious high-tech show whose great visual richness and special attention to sound design express itself fully on 4K Ultra HD support. But for those who would like to take advantage of bonuses, it is towards Blu-ray made in France (published at Blaq Out) that you will have to turn (an interview of the director and co-writer, the feature film in animatic version and a very long making-of of 238 min produced by Everybody On Deck) since the German edition does not. Draw me a robot!

Interview with Jérémie Périn

Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
