WORK - Caribbean Piratesse
Morgan Adams, a libustary of his condition, is as fearless as he is attractive. After the assassination of his father, the dreaded pirate Harry the Black, Morgan inherits the paternal boat and a third of the map of a fabulous treasure. The other two pieces are held by his uncles, also pirates, one of whom, Dawg, is none other than his father's murderer.
If there remains one of the biggest financial disasters in the history of cinema (he took water to the box office and sank the studioCarolco), this ambitious washbuckling old school did not deserve this misadventure or even need to be rehabilitated. Because effectively voguing between adventure comedy and cape and sword film in front of the cameras of aRenny HarlinEnthusiastic, this big production traversed exotic scenery and explosive action scenes (it farts from everywhere) keeps the course without difficulty in addition to embarking on board a crew simply irresistible (the courageousGeena Davis, the seducerMatthew Modineand unforgivingFrank Langella). Contrary to his cursed reputation, it is not a wooden sword!

From a new scan of the original 35 mm negatives, this 4K transfer supervised by the Frenchies fromVDMleaves the anchorage on board a solid UHD Dolby Vision transfer (an average bitrate calculated at 64 Mbps) quickly taking off its counterpart 1080p (disembarked for excess DNR, pierced compression and calibration abusing magenta tones).
The density of the silver grain (more prominent on the broad planes) regains its title and the details even more marked than the burined mouth of a pirate gives to delight in all the elements of the frame (the facial hairiness, the costumes, the interior decoration, the landscapes) with a found sharpness (the Blu-ray was blurred).
The contrasts have been modernized (blacks as deep as the abyss of the ocean and whites brighter than a polished hull) by visibly experienced mussillons, the light sources (flames, sun, candles) are at the end of the fires that have affected the submerged city of Port Royal, i.e. blinding (!), and the otherwise warmer colors with allegreous hues (the blues of the tumultuous seas, the greens of the wild jungle) are much better suited to the disparate atmosphere of the places visited, even if the unedited protruded yellow and soaring blue will put in the cape the buildings aspired to colorimetric fidelity.
SOUND - Dead Men Tell No Tales
Living and full of energy, the little subtle VO proposed in DTS-HD MA 5.1 benefits from a wide dynamic, incisive effects (swords' shock, the whistle of bullets), a straight frontal stereo, immersive atmospheres (storm, wave rolls, fauna and flora on the island), a determined rear scene despite the absence of certain noises, perfectly clear voices, an exuberant orchestral music (composed byJohn Debney) « floating » In the acoustic space and thundering bass (cannon shots) coming to awaken Poseidon.
If the English mixing controls artillery (cf. the weight of the LFE channel), the least fiery VF lossless does not spare its efforts on the bridge (playfuldoubling and relevant spatialization).
CONCLUSION - At collision!
A thousand slugs! FrontCaribbean Piratesjust got your hands on a fabulous treasure (an ultra HD 4K edition with reckless A/V performances)! Leave the ship after that? Might as well get eaten bysharksHey! And let the adventure continue...
