WORK – The good, the brute and the zombies
Norman, a solitary provincial boy capable of conversing with the dead, will have to face zombies, ghosts, witches, and the worst kind of all, adults, to save his city from a terrible curse centuries old...
Despite a somewhat lame rhythm, this stop-motion animation film that is not intended only for children is a macabre comedy of a rare pictorial beauty where a happy band of freaks amuses themselves in diverting clichés of the genre while transmitting a beautiful lesson of tolerance. From George A. Romero to the band in Scoubidou, this festival of horrific references (SOS Ghosts, Frankenstein of the James Whale, Friday 13, Halloween...) is a true film happiness haunted by the ghost of Tim Burton.

Supervised by studio LAIKA, this high quality 4K restoration finds refuge in a UHD Dolby Vision transfer that dramatically improves the images of its HD counterpart.
With exceptional clarity, it delivers details with increased sharpness (see environments), a colorimetric palette with even more luxuriant pastel hues (spectral green, autumn orange), more marked contrasts for light-obscurs more twilight (the black night is more enchanting) and light sources with enhanced brightness (the sunset, the van's headlights, the incandescence of Aggie Prenderghast, the light signs of the shops).
SON – Scream well who will scream the last!
Very expressive, « supernatural » VO Dolby Atmos is a solid soundtrack that benefits from a powerful dynamic, an LFE channel that strikes well (gunshots, car collisions), a very engaging rear scene, particularly sharp effects/ambiences, timely vertical sound (lights, witch screams), always intelligible dialogues and an enveloping score.
Less massive but with good dubbing, the VF(F) encoded in DTS 5.1 ensures the show.
CONCLUSION – Are you there?
Nice tribute to the horrific genre, ParaNorman (with its real name) will give you the shockers in 4K Ultra HD thanks to excellent A/V performances (a spectacular images in Dolby Vision + immersive spatial sound Dolby Atmos) that succeed in overcoming the stereoscopic experience of Blu-ray 3D!
