WORK - Surgery is the new sex
While the human species adapts to a synthetic environment, the human body is subject to new transformations and mutations. With the complicity of his partner Caprice, Saul Tenser, famous performer, staged the metamorphosis of his organs in avant-garde performances. Then a mysterious group manifests itself...
If you have to digest it to taste all the flavors, this strangely hypnotizing film-sum in which the doctor Cronenberg dissects his career, exposes the organs of his creativity (his « cancer » to better autopsy the surrounding world.
As meditative as well as sensual, this personal work that does not lack flesh (a surprisingly optimistic reflection on the future of humanity while the state of the planet continues to deteriorate) thus searches its obsessions (the body in all its states) with an atrocious beauty (cf. its pictorial decorations and its biomechanical utensils to the H.R. Giger) of which he alone has the secret.
And in double deformed of the filmmaker, Viggo Mortensen excise the new flesh (so that it is less fatal?) to give birth to a deviant offspring (natural evolution of Videodrome and eXistenZ) while technology extends the body and its desire. One « autobiography » Fascinating who takes the guts.
IMAGE - The transformed body
Result of a 3.4K digital capture assembled in an intermediate master finalized in 4K, the sublime photograph signed Douglas Koch is particularly « starized » by this UHD Dolby Vision transfer since free of any defect.
With less grain and little primary coverage, the sharp image like the blade of a scalpel (a surgical precision of every moment) delivers an even more stunning level of detail than in HD (injuries and other physical transformations, rust of buildings that fall into ruin), a better legibility (just perfect) during the countless scenes plunged into darkness (from deep blacks to wonderfully graduated shadows), a stronger calibration of colors (the red dress of Caprice) and nuanced (the orange atmospheres), and awakened light sources (they seem to sleep in SDR) even if contained by nature (high luminances not exceeding 127 nit).
SOUND - The sound of our bowels
Few sound effects in this minimalist approach (no less worked) that is almost exclusively articulated at the front (the surrounds spread a few atmospheres and extend the score) to give all the attention they deserve to the Sibyllin dialogues... Never crushed within a balanced mixing of which the magnitude of the strange electronic partitionHoward Shore In no way (on the contrary) does the impact. After listening, not sure that a 3D soundtrack (which does not exist for this title) would have enhanced the acoustic experience.
CONCLUSION - At the heart of the flesh
Open-heart transgression, the last feature film of the master of body-horror works in the bowels of creation to embrace the future (as disillusioned as it may be) with serenity. And since everything becomes art, it is naturally towards the 4K Ultra HD (organic A/V performances) that you will have to turn to be at the first lodges of the performances of Saul ‘Cronenberg' Tenser.
Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia

The more I think about it, the more I think I loved it!
The same... It stays in the head and keeps gaining value. Definitely a very big movie! 🥰
Most probably underestimated! It must be beautiful in 4K!
