Mag.7 is a podcast, produced and distributed by the association blésoise The Next Meeting. The principle is simple: in collaboration with libraries of Agglopolys In the town of Blois, the host Étienne invites people to walk through the music-cinema service and video games of the places and to choose DVDs there. More specifically, seven films, series, documentaries or concerts – seven corresponding to the borrowing capacity proposed by the library – then evoke their selection to the microphone. A monthly program based on the sharing and passion of the 7th art, and seeking to highlight the quality and quantity of films available in public libraries, all accessible for modest amounts, if not totally free in some communities.

Scorsese deploys a gleaming staging, fairy décors and a direction of chiseled actors, reminding that every image can be a dream mechanism. Vibrating tribute to Méliès, this film-automate recalls that from film to 3D, the real spark remains intact: the one that transforms the screen into a wonderful machine.
Opinion of The Next Meeting (Aurélie) : For a cinemaphile, watch Hugo Cabret,it's watching the magic of cinema get started, because through the eyes of Hugo and the search for a hidden message from his dead father, it's the life of Georges Méliès, pioneer of cinema, which takes place before our eyes.
As for novices, or spectators who come for pleasure, the film will offer a first glimpse of what the human imagination has been able to create to implement its wildest dreams and share them, for one purpose only: distraction.
We must not fool ourselves: the existence of this film is an UFO in the filmography of Martin Scorsese and was not approved by everyone when it was released. But if we know the love that Scorsese has for cinema, we understand that he has embarked on this project, which is in its entirety a vibrant tribute to this world of creations.
For those who want to go further, Hugo Cabret is the adaptation of a novel: The Invention of Hugo CabretBrian Selznick. And if you want to continue to dream of eyes wide open, I recommend the exhibition dedicated to Georges Méliès at the French Cinematheque, where you will have the pleasure of seeing the puppet used in the film.

Opinion of The Next Meeting (Mia): Todd Phillips presents a birth of the Joker through a work that is totally dedicated to him. The Joker is no longer the evil shadow of the heroic bat, but an oppressed and harassed citizen, who has no other means of defense than to respond more strongly to the risk of being crushed by society and the ruling classes. In this film, the Joker loses nothing of its iconic aura, on the contrary, as attests the famous dance sequence on the stairs, but it is treated in a social way.
Moreover, his rebellion surpasses him: without will, he triggers a violent movement of social revolution. The film is not an anarchist film (although it was perceived as such when it was released). He takes a social look at this character of the Joker and the city of Gotham, usually fantasized under the prism of a look at Batman/Bruce Wayne. The city's perception work is also strong: under the eyes of Bruce Wayne, who enjoys a pleasant living environment despite the loss of his parents, the city is constantly in the rain and shown at night, while in Joker, Gotham appears mainly by day and under a beautiful sun.
The villains of Batman's film universe are often marginals who rebel against the carcans of a society that discriminates against them. In Batman ReturnsCatwoman is a single woman living alone with her cats (and suffering the violence of her boss, a rich tyrannical entrepreneur embodied by Christopher Walken), while the Penguin is a child rejected by her rich parents at birth because of her difference. Opinion of MaG (the celest wolf) : A rich and exciting movie-philic journey to the end of Hollywood's golden age, Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood is a fun as well as melancholy ride in the Los Angeles of 60s/70s worn by a crazy casting. Ode to the 7th art ultra-referenced and furiously nostalgic, this masterpiece « cache » without doubt the most personal film of its author-director, the immense Quentin Tarantino. A real movie pleasure!
Opinion of The Next Meeting (Sébastien): Many times, Quentin Tarantino has shown through his filmography that he is a born cinephile. It is enough to see how much each of his works reproduces cinematographic genres, ranging from gangster films (Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction) in western countries (Django Unchained, The 8 bastards), passing through the war film (Inglourious Basterds). He even tried various style exercises to pay tribute to blaxploitation (Jackie Brown) in the chabara (the diptych) Kill Bill) or at the operating cinema (the diptych) Grindhousewith Boulevard de la Mort). But he had never before spoken of 7th art during his career, until the release of Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood, the masterpiece of a great enthusiast.
In addition to the fact that he explores the universe of Hollywood productions through this stuntman and his lining, Quentin Tarantino makes his ninth feature film (both parts of the Kill Bill A true love letter addressed to the cinema. Far from the delusions to which he has accustomed us, the filmmaker offers here a softer dive into the very heart of the filming sets. Admittedly, Tarantino is still using his lengthy discussions that capture attention, while giving way to the explosion of violence (the climax) and the desire to reshape history, in the way it does.Inglourious Basterds. But the director shows here an unusual sobriety, which he uses to pay homage to this art he loves. For this, he summoned various celebrities from the 1960s, the time of his birth and the advent of New Hollywood. Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood It is a living museum where Sharon Tate, Bruce Lee, Steve McQueen and James Stacy cross. He filmed his characters and sets with stars full of eyes, and managed to convey this wonder to his audience.
The feature film also depicts an era that marked Tarantino outside the cinema: the hippie movement, the Vietnam War, Richard Nixon's election to the presidency... and obviously the famous Manson Family. Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood, it is an animated postcard that allows Tarantino to open up to spectators, making this title his most personal film. While we were all waiting for his tenth realization, announced as the last, the author delivers here his ultimate film: the one that brings together all his references, themes and convictions, and that sums up by himself a career that has become cult over the decades.

The pitch : Between America and Vietnam, the tragic journey and fate of a group of friends who are united, confronted with the horrors and injustices of war.
Opinion of The Next Meeting (Sebastian): In the second half of the 1970s, talking about the Vietnam War is still taboo on the side of Uncle Sam's. Few Hollywood majors dare to embark on such a subject, the answer being most often that« No American wants to see a movie about Vietnam » (dix Michael Deeley). The project will even find it difficult to find US financing, finding it a buyer with English producers, including Deeley but also Barry Spikings. Both want to adapt a scenario they find brilliant but incomplete, on a band of friends going to Las Vegas to play Russian roulette. With the desire to deal with the conflict and the support of director Michael Cimino, the scenario is gradually changing to make Trip to the end of hell the first film to talk about the Vietnam War and its repercussions. Hence this prominent place that the title occupies in the film culture, giving birth to many works that will in turn mark the minds: Revelation Now, Rambo, Platoon, Born on 4 July, Outrages... But besides his posture, it is also by his undeniable quality that the feature film stands out.
Because seeing the film makes it impossible to guess that the original scenario evoked a trip to Las Vegas. Here, it is rather a matter of a fresco of more than three hours, evoking the painful journey of friends that promises to be the perfect illustration of the conflict. Thus, the film begins with a rhyming first part with festivities and carefreeness. The characters, drunk with joy and patriotism, are happy to go on the front to serve their country. Then comes the second part which, like our heroes, propels us on the ground, where we face the reality and horror of war. It is, without a shadow of doubt, the hardest and most taking moment of the film. Then the whole ends on a third part, which evokes the repercussions on the protagonists and presents itself as the exact opposite of the beginning. For in the end, everything is all pain, despair and madness. By its consequent duration, Trip to the end of hell takes us to an epic by making us pass through every possible state. A fact that we owe to the staging of Michael Cimino, but above all to the unwavering interpretation of his famous casting, subject to extreme conditions of shooting. Suffice it to say that the uppercut felt during viewing struggles to weaken once the ending credits begin!
In the end, only the famous Russian roulette sequence remains of the first scenario. Long contested for its historical truthfulness, however, it alone sums up the Vietnam War: a « moment » a rare violence, governed by blindness, horror and madness, having marked its main actors forever. Many other titles will evoke this, but rarely with the intensity of Trip to the end of hell.

Opinion of MaG (Celeste wolf): By blasting the zombie movie with infected people thrown like cars in a soulless London, Danny Boyle signs a feverish nightmare filmed in DV, whose short-circuited realism ices the blood. The gross intensity of Cillian Murphy, a real deflagration on the screen, propels each scene as an emotional contamination. Between viral tension and post-apocalyptic poetry, 28 days later remains a thrilling sensory shock, a renaissance of the genre that bites long after the generic.
Opinion of The Next Meeting (Aurélie): This film is, and will remain, one of my favourites as I find it many qualities, and I therefore allow myself to take sides from the beginning of this review: I have no negative points! From the beginning, the photo, the music and the opening scene take on the tripes. First of all, 28 days later is a revolution in the myth of zombie: exits the dismembered and decaying monsters coming out of their graves, who have long filled the nanars. Admittedly, it's not really zombies, but infected people who take over the codes of the genre.
During my first viewing, I was conquered by the treatment and rendering of the attacks of the infected, which give them a violence and unpredictability rarely used, the imminence of an attack being often staged to create a climate of fear. It is this raw violence, accompanied by the superb music of John Murphy, which renders 28 days later as cold, as an atmosphere of the end of the world where hope is no longer allowed. End of the world which is the central subject of the film, summarized from the first minutes by Cillian Murphy wandering through the deserted streets of London.
The genius of this horror film lies in the parallel that it establishes between the wild and animal horror of the infected and the human horror, which is just as brutal and unthinkable when it comes to subjecting or appropriation the other. Finally, who is the worst, man or beast? The question continues to arise in the future (which I obviously advise), 28 weeks later. It is not the only film to explore this question, but the works of the horrific genre lend themselves to it, as they allow to expose the darkest instincts.

Opinion of The Next Meeting (Sebastian): On the edge of dawn is a film that occurred as popular culture began to amuse with the figure of the vampire. Still attached to Count Dracula's noble and chasteline imagery, the blood-sucker then became a lambda person, a gentleman-and-madam-all-world whose clichés and characteristics were evolving. The garlic and the crucifixes did not really effect him anymore, the invitation to enter gradually disappeared and, above all, he became a creature capable of melting into the mass. But contrary to works such as Vampire, did you say vampire? or Lost generation, On the edge of dawn managed to stand out thanks to the vision and work of her director, Kathryn Bigelow.
Desirous of directing a western, like then in perdition, she decided to combine this desire with the myth of the vampire to lead to a twilight work. As at the time of the cowboys, the film follows a band of outlaws wandering on the roads, stopping here or there to cause chaos. American deserts become fields and cities, the saloon becomes a bar. The filmmaker even keeps certain accessories, such as spur boots, giving rise to a horrific sequence of crazy creativity. But Bigelow's inventiveness does not stop there: she continues to master her directing. Besides his vampires, mainly incarnated by the casting ofAliens, return (Lance Henriksen, Bill Paxton and Jennette Goldstein), she makes night a full character. Its dark representation, almost without stars, gives a huge stamp to the film, both visual and outer. I am thinking in particular of this sequence of shooting in a motel where, at night leaving room for day, the trajectory of the bullets is drawn by the rays of the sun, mortal for our blood suckers.
But beyond the re-appropriation of an emblematic figure, On the edge of dawn presents itself as a Hollywood revival. At a time when it seemed unthinkable to see a woman directing films such as Die Hard or RoboCopKathryn Bigelow demonstrated a talent and mastery that allowed him to stand alongside his male counterparts, such as James Cameron, John McTiernan and Paul Verhoeven. His career will also be marked by various essays in the genre cinema: the policeman (Blue Steel), action (Break item), science fiction (Strange Days) or the underwater film (K-19). Yes, before becoming the filmmaker known for his political films, Kathryn Bigelow was able to make a place in a Hollywood that left little room for women, while they could deliver works just as worked, or even more successful, than many directors.
