WORK – The Eight Salopards

Six codenamed robbers began to rob a major jewellery store under the direction of tyrannical Joe Cabot and his son Nice Guy Eddie. The operation fails unfortunately and results in a bloodbath. The criminals then take refuge in a sordid warehouse to find out which of them betrayed them.

As he reinvents the polar codes, inspired by the City on Fire by Ringo Lam, Quentin Tarantino lays the foundations of his cinema in a unit of place, time and action. A scenario that is destructed to maintain suspense, references to pop culture, characters barred from the very marked personalities entrusted to outstanding actors, aggravated violence (affiliated to the film d'exploitation), replica cults with raw vocabulary, reflected original tape (a neat mixtape) and staging that folds space to his narrative are thus found in this closed session of gangsters where they are men like the others. It was a trial, it was a master's move!

IMAGE – Colors of Discord

From a 4K scan of the original negative (a Super 35 capture) with Dolby Vision digital reset and calibration, this remarkable UHD transfer (with a few treatments) allows to (re)discover a Reservoir Dogs More beautiful than ever.

The source has been perfectly cleaned (a little too much since the granular texture is slightly « muzzled » By a moderate use of DNR), the details that are surprisingly sliced (a discreet adjustment of sharpness has been applied) abound at the four corners of the wide frame (the pores of the skin, the filthy walls of the stash), the colorimetric palette that is beautifully saturated (and warmer than on the Blu-ray) is adorned with more vibrant primaries (the bright blue sky, the macabre red blood) and a healthier carnation, the contrasts are much bolder than in the past (the rest, the darkness reveals itself better) and the light sources benefit from a high luminance renewed with attention (the neon signs, the light of the day, the reflections on the bodywork).

SON – Like a Virgin

At the rhythm of the dialogues, lively and perfectly rendered, this soundtrack encoded in Dolby TrueHD 5.1, more animated at the front than at the back (some well nuanced atmospheres), gives rise to a relevant dynamic, expanded effects with subtlety (cf. the clappy plates at dinner) and a music of the 70s (such as the mythical one). Stuck in the Middle With You) a beautiful depth. Little expressive, the LFE channel never took part in the robbery anyway.

CONCLUSION – The paw of worship!

In honour of its 30th anniversary, « Comedy » nihilist that allowed the cinephagus volubile QT enter by break-in into the great history of 7th art, has found a trusted partner in this professional 4K Ultra HD (the A/V performances do not deceive on the merchandise) to succeed the coup of the century!

Reservoir Dogs

Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia

Which one is your favorite again? Person is Pulp Fiction.

Hard to say... Pulp Fiction really has something that marked an entire era so I'd decide for him too. But Boulevard de la mort has a regressive side that I really like. And in the recent Django and Inglourious Basterds were super graying in the genre revenge of history.
