WORK - Revelation Now
As they spend their holidays in an isolated chalet in the middle of nature, a young girl and her parents are taken hostage by four armed foreigners who require them an impossible choice in order to avoid the imminence of the apocalypse. While they have virtually no means of communication with the rest of the world, they will have to take their decision alone.
In this oppressive camera where faith and family (the film's fetish themes) found « refuge », the tic-tac of Apocalypse requires humanity to make the right choice (an internal war which will unfortunately be too simplified at the end). Packed with real know-how, governed by emotion and inhabited by a casting of great accuracy (Dave Bautista in mind), this Signs in mirror that knows how to play with the nerves of the public is the New Testament of Shyamalan.
IMAGE - The Cabana in the woods
Resulting from a 35 mm anamorphic capture finalized in 4K, this very solid UHD Dolby Vision transfer (an average bitrate close to 80 Mb/s) celebrates the naturalistic appearance of the photo (signed Lowell A. Meyer and Jarin Blaschke) whose light is carefully studied.
The granularity remains discreet except flashbacks (where it emerges a little more), the definition is remarkable (the weaving of clothes, the bark of trees, the grain of wood in the cottage) and the fine details come out better (the close-ups on the faces, Leonard tattoos).
The colourimetric palette with richly wooded (inside) and boldly greened (outside) hues increases in heat but also in radiance (reds and oranges), the scenes with little light to the courteous blacks which represent a large majority of the work (a measured average of 75 cd/m2) show shadows easier to discern (see passage in the cellar) and the whites, a bit more alert (but not to panic the nits overall cramped under the 100 cd/m2), add light to the high luminances (the rays of the sun through the windows).
- We knock on the door.
Focused on the dialogues (natural and delivered with clarity), this soundtrack Dolby Atmos with striking directionality (voices move, forest atmospheres envelop) and authoritarian dynamics (especially during the invasion of the four intruders) is lastingly marked by its dramaturgy (well helped by the oppressive score of Herdís Stefánsdóttir).
The crazyly elaborate mixing seats all the channels with a disturbing multi-directional cutting (the surround environment is omnipresent and the striking verticality), the few television brackets are perfectly restored, the score invaded vastly the places and the basses, flourishing in the depths, give a lot of weight to the passages under high tension (especially when part of humanity is judged).
Not loseless, the small VF Dolby Digital 5.1 is much less accurate and spacious than its 3D friend. Successfully, dubbing is harmonious.
CONCLUSION - Time to choose
Contemporary biblical story on redemption and self-denial, disconcerting Knock at the Cabin plays even more with our nerves within a 4K Ultra HD edition convinced of the faithful A/V performances!
Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia

I had been taken away by the film to Gérardmer. Even though its final is questionable and very (too?) shyamalanian!
