WORK – The extreme convoy
A diamond mine collapses in the Canadian North and traps nearly thirty miners. Jim Goldenrod hires Mike McCann, an experienced truck driver, to conduct a perilous rescue mission. They're going to lead a convoy to borrow the « Ice road », a frozen and unstable ocean that covers almost 500 km from Lake Winnipeg. To the weather and mechanical damage, add a series of mysterious attacks, which prove that someone has no interest in this rescue...
Driven by a Liam Neeson at the top of its shape, this B-series, full of twists, mechanical damage, suspense and chase races is not without evoking a Salary of fear Winter. Effective entertainment where action and tension are the masters on board!
IMAGE – On board a steel mastoon
Dominating by ice and cold, this UHD HDR10 transfer from a DI 4K reveals even more details than its HD counterpart while intensifying contrast values.
Slightly darker than that of Blu-ray, the image that is extremely sharp (not possible to miss the softness of CGIs) enriches with increased resolution (facial hairiness, writings on the panels, texture of clothing), more pimping colours (blue sky, red paint, yellow reflective stripes), brighter whites, better drawn blacks (the sequences in the mine) and brighter light sources (reverberation on the snow surface, reflections on the body of trucks).
SON – The axles are on fire...
Without squeaking about the surrounding atmospheres (the ice cracks, the whistling of the wind, the drilling tools) or the rumbling of the engines (good support of the bass), this very spatial mixing (nothing the score is greatly ventilated) which actively fills the listening scene (cf. the propagation of the cracks following an unfortunate event) nevertheless has difficulty passing the second side of the dynamic, somewhat on the reserve.
Recorded at a rather low level, you should not hesitate to push the volume to properly enjoy this soundtrack.
CONCLUSION – Chaos on the ice!
Thanks to an ultra HD 4K that doesn't look cold, this suicide expedition avoids any slipping... Even if it is strongly advised to attach your belt to the weather forecast!
Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
