WORK – Alone on Earth
Finch is the last man on Earth. Suffering from his mortal condition, the inventor builds a robot to take care of his beloved dog. The trio embarks on a journey across the country. The scientist takes the opportunity to teach his creation the sense of love and friendship to assume the burden of an animal and that the latter, in turn, can accept this new master.
A philosophic tale of ecology, this initiatory road movie embarks us in a family survival where a tenderly clumsy android, in contact with a « father » dying (the charismatic Tom Hanks), will build an identity. In turn funny, touching and dramatic, this SF work of great emotional correctness is gradually forging one (beautiful) soul.
IMAGE – Through the apocalyptic wasteland
Despite minor compression problems (a handful of colour banding), this excellent UHD Dolby Vision transfer gives life to a rich and vibrant beautifully textured image.
Impressive in terms of clarity and definition, revealing details all sharper than each other, it also presents a range of colours full of heat where the shades are precisely adapted to the environments crossed. Also offering bright whites that come out of the screen (a radiant brightness) and extremely deep blacks with a thousand shades (rich shadows), it uses ultra-handled contrasts to magnify the photograph whose light sources are irradiating (cf. the brightness of the neon and the realistic glow of duvetous clouds).
SON – At the rate of the weather
Equipped with a wide dynamic, imposing bass, careful spatialization and a score like a glove, this Dolby Atmos soundtrack (in VO as in VF) gives a serious boost to chaos (storms make the height channels scream) without the voices, perfectly intelligible, hurt.
CONCLUSION – Life is too short!
While this sensitive approach to the post-apocalyptic genre is heartwarming, the A/V performances presented by Apple TV+ add sentimental faculties to this touching (not so) artificial intelligence!
