WORK – End of night transfers
In Los Angeles, a mysterious and lonely man nicknamed « Driver » is master in the art of sowing the police during high-risk robberies. « Detective » the relentless stalking and decides to trap him by putting up a fake break with a team of criminals. In order to escape him, The Driver associates with « The Player », a seductive and enigmatic young woman.
Main source of inspiration for the twilight polar Drive, this visceral urban western where characters (a good casting) are defined by their stinging function in the action that heats the bitumen. Motorized by a fioriture-free staging, it shows striking realism during two great (and long) racing-suits in cars. And despite its exacerbated minimalism, this great film is haunting all along.

Result of a 4K restoration (from the scan of the original 35 mm negatives) supervised by Walter Hill In person, this UHD Dolby Vision transfer breathes love for the work well done and deploys a tasty ultra-film rendering.
Leaving behind him the few tinglings of the previous Blu-ray to show only a beautiful velvety silver texture, he embarks a more sharp definition (the streets of the City of Angels) and details with increased finesse (faces, interior of vehicles, clothes).
The colorimetric palette is otherwise more vibrant (cf. the richness of the primaries), the better composed contrasts (blacks ink and whites) so that the elements hidden in the darkness reveal themselves more (the shadows are no longer blocked), and the more dynamic light sources (the brilliance of the bodies, the night lighting that illuminates the city).
SON – Driver, if your champion... ♪
While it is full of roaring motors, screaming tires, cracked plates and gunshots, this monophonic soundtrack is very faithful to the work that it sounds like, however, does not forget to give a clear return to the (rare) dialogues and score (spured).
Very dense despite its frontal nature, it is imperative to focus on VO for optimal efficiency. In addition to giving less precision to the ambiances (sometimes even lost in the city) and the BO, the VF must bear a (good) dubbing too prominent.
CONCLUSION – Let yourself be driven
Behind its steering wheel, it is thanks to the very good 4K Ultra HD motorization (the A/V performances have taken over) that « Driver » Pilot better than ever!
