WORK – Gathering with werewolves

A unit of six English soldiers performs a routine military exercise in a wild, vast and hostile nature of Scotland. They soon discovered the bloody bodies of another battalion. They no longer have ammunition and the radio is not working. Isolated in a forest by a night of full moon, these inexperienced men realize that their attackers are two-metre-high, vicious and bloody werewolves.

Well bleeding, not in lace and full of black humor, this near-closed survival is a roundly led B series that dusted British horror 20 years ago. So the peloton of war dogs is ready to fight to try to survive this hellish night.

IMAGE – The cabin in the woods

Made by Silver Salt Restoration in the United Kingdom and approved by Neil Marshall and Sam McCurdy, this UHD Dolby Vision transfer is a spectacular improvement vis-à-vis previous, and disappointing, video releases.

The 2009 Blu-ray (at First Look) suffered from an abuse of DNR and d In 2022, none of this!

Carefully cleaned, the image now displays an abundant silver texture (which the compression manages wonderfully) whose authenticity is immediately palpable, an unassailable definition (the sweets are inherent to the source) and a much more marked sting (the squash on the soldiers, the weaving of the outfits, the bark of the trees, the scaly paint).

The colorimetric palette with attenuated tints sees its primarys become brighter (the freshness of the blue sky, the vitality of the yellow body of the Land Rover, the splashing of red blood cells) and its carnation in fineness (light skins), the contrasts have been readjusted so that the details are no longer lost in the shadows (at controlled density) and/or the high luminances (whites under control), and the light sources are manifested with more intensity (light of the day, reflections on metal surfaces, interior luminaire, flames, fumigine, fluorescent tubes, flash of the camera).

SON – Moonlight sonata

If the moderate dynamics, the chilliness of some pyrotechnic effects (firearm deflagration is low impact) and the slimming of the Mark Thomas This multichannel soundtrack, however, does not lack a dog.

The frontal opening can surprise (the take-off of the helicopter), the spatialisation uses fully all the enclosures at its disposal (the movements of the werewolfs, the location of the screams), the surrounds come to life frantically during attacks (the trajectory of the bullets), the LFE channel shakes the floor a few times (explosions, grunts) and the dialogues are strongly exuded by the power plant.

So that the lycan posted on the pavilion and the steps emanating from the floor get higher, remember to activate a virtualization DSP.

CONCLUSION – The pack has the fangs

In a state of siege, this 4K Ultra HD will have to awaken its senses if it does not want to serve as a resistance dish to a pack of hungry werewolves. Fortunately, much sharper than those of German edition (the restoration being otherwise more neat and the track DTS-HD MA 5.1 much more demonstrative), they will enable it to effectively ensure its defense.

Dog Soldiers

Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
