WORK - Black Bird
The true story of Jesse Brown, the first black airman in the history of the American Navy, and his deep friendship with his fellow fighter pilot Tom Hudner. Their sacrifices, which helped reverse the most brutal battle of the Korean war, made them the most famous wingmen of the navy.
Between Top Gun and the Belgian comic strip series Buck Danny, this Hollywood war drama (a well-tied and reconstructed) inspired by real facts where dogfighters (as spectacular as they are realistic) are not the only fights led by his hero (daily confronted with segregation and discrimination), is a poignant work on courage and friendship carried by inhabited actors (Jonathan Majors, Glen Powell). IMAGE - The head in the clouds
Without Blu-ray in edition, possible point of comparison. Nevertheless, from 6K and 8K sources finalized in 4K, the elegant cinematographic image is carefully reproduced by this UHD Dolby Vision transfer with solid compression as a MiG (an average bitrate of 68.1 Mb/s).
The sharpness and the definition are a natural finesse (faces, costumes, aircraft, decorations), the slightly washed colorimetric calibration has very beautiful primary (see steel blues), nicely authentic grey tones (they predominate inside the aircraft carrier) and a healthy carnation, the contrasts to the vintage patina enjoy black (never blocked) and white (perfectly net) licked, and the light sources make a strong impression between the reflections on the carlingual, immaculate mellow clouds and artificial lighting (regular peaks at 900 nits and an average luminance of 371 cd/m2).
SON - Startup, Take-off, Fly-by and Hit
Very well balanced, the soundtrack Dolby Atmos (reserved for VO) shows a serious commitment from all channels... The same is true for the Auro-3D track (also attributed to the VO) delivered in 13.1.
The dynamics impress, the Chance Vought F4U Corsair through the listening room with an impressive fluidity, the power of the LFE channel (a low of the generous spectrum) stimulates the slightest incartade (the roaring of the engines, the weight of the explosions), the shots sound on all sides, the support of the atmospheres is intimately enveloping (notably on board the warship), the music both melancholic and heroic of the Chanda Dancy sounds with first class clarity, and dialogues remain ideally disseminated.
As large and well spatialized as its English-speaking consoeurs despite the audible loss of verticality (largely handled during air jousts), the VF encoded in DTS-HD MA 5.1 is a teammate on whom one can count... Especially against the balance of its dubbing.
CONCLUSION - His name is Brown, James Brown
A solid classicism, this war film that takes a fresh look at the Korean War (rarely shown in Hollywood) through the first African-American Navy pilot, takes off on 4K Ultra HD support (high-flight A/V performances)!
