WORK – Death at the end of the wire

Finney Shaw, a young 13-year-old, shy but intelligent, is kidnapped by a sadistic killer who locks up in a soundproof basement where he doesn't use a lot. When a phone hung on the wall, yet out of use, starts ringing, Finney will discover that he is in contact with the voices of his previous victims...

Adapted from news of Stephen King's younger son, Joe Hill, this Blumhouse production that evokes the very pleasant Summer of 84 agency social drama and fantastic thriller within a (or almost) cluttering camera where horror goes crescendo. The facts are sordid, the figure of the Grabber is terrifying (Ethan Hawke is cold in the back), the atmosphere is glauquissimistic and the staging of Scott Derrickson (the frightening Sinister) is playing with latent stress « combined » To the bursts of pure terror. A frank success that occupies the line seriously!

IMAGE – The basement of fear

This 1080p transfer comes from a 3.4K digital recording and Super 8 (for a few scenes), and looks really great.

Very precise (the texture of the clothes, the wear of the masks, the craze on the walls) and provided with solid contrasts (the depth of the blacks is exemplary), the image typed 70s in his photograph shows a beautifully faded colorimetric palette that preserves the boldness of the primaries and the health of the carnation.

While compression usually ensures two or three low-light passages, there is a slight video noise.

SON – Beyond

Despite the absence of the Atmos mixing operated in cinemas, this HD edition presents two 7.1 soundtracks (DTS-HD MA for VO and DTS-HD HR for VF) excellently spatialized whose clarity (acute sounds) and commitment of the LFE channel (jump scares) surprise.

Well balanced while they have to juggle between felty atmospheres and aggressive effects, they are endowed with a diabolical dynamic, voices well exuded by the power plant, a carefully exploited rear stage and a wide score.

CONCLUSION – A missed call?

At the other end of the line, anxiety is at the rendezvous... Especially when the phone conversation is recorded on a Blu-ray that favours direct current to alternating current!

Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
