WORK – The teeth of the savannah

A recently widowed man and his two teenage daughters go to an animal reserve in South Africa. However, their healing journey quickly turns into a struggle for survival when a blood-thirsty lion starts tracking them...

Admittedly marked and filled with good feelings (the family unit in crisis), this animal survivor who loungs to Jurassic Park is a series B to the old well defatted whose main attraction is a digital lion (particularly neat) drunk of revenge. The anguish is palpable, the pieces of bravery well scratched, and the staging with overflowing energy (a multitude of plans-sequences with tight frames) relies on a rhythm that does not drag the leg. For sure, the Beast Don't miss a bite!

IMAGE – Terrible jungle

Apart from problematic night scenes (which are fortunately rare), this 1080p transfer displays a flattering (daytime) image to the beautiful South African landscapes.

The precision of the elements of the frame is undeniable, the details abound during most of the film (less at night), the colorimetric palette is really catchy (terrestrial desert areas, areas of greenery, bloody wounds) and the contrasts are harmoniously managed.

But where the grain added in post-prod (a digital shooting) gives character to the diurnal planes, it comes to add to the important digital noise that parasites those immersed in the darkness.

SON – Uyimbube

With a great multichannel activity, the VO Dolby Atmos really does not chew its effects. The rear scene and the verticality of the sound allow the fawn to appropriate the out-of-field, the atmospheres are superbly distributed, the dynamics are violent (see attacks) and the LFE channel brings a lot of muscle to the whole (roarings and shocks on the vehicle).

As for the « small » VF, delivered in Dolby Digital More than 7.1, it suffers from undermixed dubbing and is neither as vigorous nor as spaced (despite good spatialization) as its 3D counterpart.

CONCLUSION – The lion died tonight?

Guided by an Idris Elba who has eaten lion, this high-risk safari is offered to us via Universal Pictures within a Blu-ray edition (with interesting bonuses and generally quality A/V services) that will make lovers of the genre hungry!

Beast (2022)

Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
