Work - Make a wish...

Asha lives in Rosas, a kingdom where all wishes can literally be fulfilled. In a moment of despair, she addresses a vow to the stars to which a cosmic force will respond: a small infinite energy ball named Star.

Between homage and renewal, tradition and modernity, this film-centennial whose 2D/3D hybridization suggests a desire for change for the firm with big earsyet replays its classics (a return to the source of fairy tales) not without an opportune political subtext (a libertarian message anti-dictature). And as the east and west meet on the shores of the Mediterranean, this ode to self-denial rich in disneyen winks (more than 100 references to the old classic animation) and in stubborn songs runs its linear program to remind the public that everything becomes possible When you pray the right star. Despite a certain lack of originality, magic did not fly away!

« The stars are there to guide us. »

IMAGE - Welcome to Rosas

Already excellent in 1080p, image « reinvented » (watercolour textures plated on digital graphics) is further enhanced by this wonderful UHD HDR10 transfer.

The subtly increased level of detail is truly exquisite (the freckles on the face of Asha, the painted canvas backgrounds, the patterns on the costumes, the stone walls of the palace), the generously expressive colorimetric palette is more magnificently saturated (bold purples, cold blues, evil greens and bright yellows), the skilfully adjusted contrasts (the Blu-ray is globally brighter but much flatter in comparison) display reinforced blacks and whites with raised purity, and the light sources benefit from an additional layer of shine (the reflections are superb and magical manifestations are enchanting).

Wish: Asha and the Good Star

SON - I'm a Star 🎶

If you still have to adjust (but not too much) the volume to fully enjoy it, this Dolby Atmos mixing as dynamic as it is engaging is simply magical.

The immersive sound scene is very wide with a beautiful separation of the channels, the effects surrounds flow with waves, the verticality even if occasional is well felt (the bubbles of wishes in weightlessness, the arrival of Star), the musical notes of the score of Dave Metzger dance in the listening room, the LFE channel hits hard (sorcery and percussion instruments) and the dialogues are perfectly clear.

Powerful (although less extensive) and well distributed (even if less precise), the VFQ presented in Dolby Digital Plus 7.1 really doesn't detract... Especially as the (good) dubbing fits well into the original mixing.

CONCLUSION - Prepared for a century?

Tribute to Disney's great classics, this wonder for young and old who respects the magic recipe of his glorious elders shines with a thousand lights in 4K Ultra HD (it must also be said that the A/V performances fulfill the technical wishes of the home-cinephiles)!

Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
