- They're back...

In the heart of the Forest of the Blue Dreams, a destructive rage grew as Winnie l'Ourson, Porcinet, Master Hibou and Tigrou saw their home and their lives threatened after Jean-Christophe revealed their existence. Not wanting to live in the shadows, the group decided to lead the fight to the city of Ashdown, leaving behind them a bloody trace of death and chaos.

With its budget five times higher, this suite more gore and ambitious to the artistic direction best worked looks like the fantastic little slashers of the 80s where graphic violence abounded. But if the bodycount (the cute cartoon characters transformed into horrific figures) is even more generous, the writing problems persist while the new psychological approach of its subject (linked to the horrific origin of monsters) surprises. Nevertheless, spreading a true love for the B series which stains and aspires to paints without anesthesia (damage while the assembly is still too hatched), this 2nd opus of the franchise The Twisted Childhood Universe Will fill the morbid impulses of fans of the genre.

IMAGE - The forest of bloody nightmares

Despite the use of the same camera as the basis for animal documentaries (an 8K RED Helium), the leader op Vince Knight far from the digital exuberant to the deliciously outrageous visuals of the 1st opus for a more repulsive visceral approach, whose rendering (obtained of course in post-prod) is not without evoking ultra-precise 16 mm silver (for the little contemporary touch). A character image that the present Dolby Vision UHD transfer, unshakeable despite the granularity of the room, delivers with great care.

The definition is excellent, the constant accuracy of the piqué (the rare sweets being probably intentional) which is never handicapped by the ambient darkness is firmer than on the Blu-ray (cf. the incredible texture of make-up) and the restitution of the imposing grain gains finesse.

The overtly warm colorimetric palette (except in hospital) and mostly nestling in earthy brown tones has a brighter saturation (this is particularly visible at the techno party and on Winnie's shirt) and contrasts, showing enhanced management, otherwise better detail the shadows (omnipresent) while intensifying the many sliced lights (neon in the warehouse, flames on the chainsaw).

SOUND - Winnie the Bear no longer sings

Discreet and undemonstrative out of the passage of rave party (where all the potashes are encumbered), this soundtrack to the effective dynamic as soon as the horror comes not particularly memorable, low budget obliges. The (unconvincing) dubbing of the VF is well integrated into the original mix, so both sound tracks are worth it.

The dialogues are always intelligible, the worrying score ofAndrew Scott Bell a of punch and even if limited, the surround effects remain effective (see the movements of Master Hibou and Tigrou). Never exploited to its full potential, the LFE channel is mainly used only for music. In VO, a few scratches are noticed.

CONCLUSION - ... To play a bad trick!

More wicked and professional in mass killing, Winnie and his friends come out of the shadow to massacre from human to all-va. A very bloody practice my faith that the 4K Ultra HD edition covers on all seams... And to go further in the bonus section (rather than chick), I urge you to take a look at the behind-the-scene, Bloody Mag and Interviews by TheCritizMan (who actively participated in the shooting).

Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
