WALL•E is the last being on Earth and turns out to be a... little robot! 700 years earlier, humanity deserted our planet leaving this incredible little machine to clean the Earth. But after many years, he developed a small technical defect: a strong personality. Extremely curious, very indiscreet, he is above all a little too lonely...
This funny, moving and poetic science fiction animation tells us a very touching romance between two small robots on Earth devastated by pollution and abandoned by humans. Always as beautiful visually (a design with irresistible charm), this real jewel of the Pixar studios is also an environmental dystopia where the alert on the dangers of overconsumption leads us to question our life. As a result of a ubiquitous technology, the individual who gradually loses from his humanity turns away from the essential (love, nature and life) and is no longer master of his destiny. A striking fable!
If Disney's HDR10 UHD transfer only dipped a moderate gap with its HD counterpart (the n « Realistic », the support of Dolby Vision (and HDR10+) adds a good boost to the image.
The blacks and whites gain in balance (the shadows were deepened during the darkest sequences and the shine of the enhanced metal parts) for a feeling of increased depth, the colorimetric palette displays with much more vibrance (including orange, yellow, red, purple and blue hues) and textures benefit from additional finesse (the rust on Earth). Importantly, the occasional color banding is inherent in the source.
Although it may seem identical to the 3D mix proposed by Disney in its March 2020 edition, this « new » Dolby Atmos soundtrack, which no longer needs to adjust the volume well beyond the reference level, is not far from regaining the dynamic range of the old DTS-HD MA 5.1 ES track (proposed here on the secondary track) in addition to conceding to its additional muscle bass (see rocket launch).
Apart from this significant gain in robustness, there is no change on the horizon. So we end up with a perfectly spatialised mixing (the acoustic space is particularly alive) and excellent clarity (the omnipresent partition of Thomas Newman is of great fidelity and the rare superiorly intelligible dialogues), where the surrounding activity is full of effects of all kinds and the aerial scene maximizes enveloped (as with the reverberation on board the Axiom ship).
How can we not be amazed by this green romance between robots that questions the fate of humanity? Especially as unlike the Earth that humans have stopped polluting, the present 4K Ultra HD, now fucked by the prestigious publisher US Criterion (with the addition of dynamic metadata of Dolby Vision/HDR10+ formats and seven new director-oriented bonus features) at the request ofAndrew Stanton In person, was not left behind! If the previous version of Disney was already good, this one still improves the experience to make it the final edition for all WALL fans• E and EVE.
Nyctalope like Riddick and with a very good hearing, I am ready to jump on physical editions and SVOD platforms. But if the quality isn't on the rendezvous, stop at the bite! #WeLovePhysicalMedia
